Earlier today, at the stroke of midnight (in Japan) – nay, during the Dark Hour – an official website and twitter account for the forthcoming Persona 3 the Movie went live.

Although no new details for the movie has surfaced, if you go to the official website now you’ll be greeted by an illustration of the broody-looking protagonist as well as a digital timer that states the current time in Japan… which could be useful for Nico Nico livestreams?

First announced after the credits in the recent Persona 4 movie (Persona 4 the Animation -The Factor of Hope-) in Japan, Persona 3 the Movie is set two years before the start of Persona 4, and tells the story of a group of high school students who fight monsters known as “Shadows” during the Dark Hour – a period of time wedged in-between two consecutive days that most people are unaware of (they turn into coffins temporarily).

Only Personas can hurt these shadow creatures, and to summon their respective Personas, the protagonist and gang use “evokers” – spirit guns that they put to their foreheads and then pull the trigger to.

Part of the Persona 3 story will also be connected to Atlus and Arc System Works’ Persona 4 Arena fighting game.

A release date for the Persona 3 movie has yet to be revealed (it might not even be this year), so if you’re interested in catching up on P3’s storystory prior to Persona 4 Arena, your best bet is to hunt down a copy of Persona 3 Portable for the PSP. Or get it digitally through the PSN (English version through US PSN, Japanese version through Asia PSN).
