After thanking her fans for their support on her solo debut single, Masaka, at the Tokyo Dome City Hall, 21-year-old member Tomomi Kasai reveals that she will soon graduate from the group.

The sad news on her departure from AKB48 was announced during The 2nd AKB48 Kohaku Taikou Uta Gassen on December 17.

“I joined AKB48 when I was 14, and have been in the group for 6 and a half years. It made me learn a lot of things. Now that I’ve received a chance for a solo debut, I would like to convey the messages in my songs with my own ability from now on,” Kasai explains with tears in her eyes after her apology on the sudden news. She appeared alone on stage when making the announcement.

We’ve seen members of this girl group graduate for the past few years. And we have to admit, every time a member leaves, it’s heart-breaking for every AKB48 fan. Still, let’s look forward to the future activities of Tomomi Kasai. As a solo artist, we’ll surely see more of her individual appeal as we watch her sing and perform solo on stage.

The details on the graduation, including when and where it will be held, have yet to be announced.
