Born Kiriko Takemura, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu first gained recognition for being a fashion blogger and model for several Harajuku fashion magazines, before making her debut in the music scene with her break-out single PonPonPon, produced by Yasutaka Nakata (also the producer for Perfume since 2003).
Kyary’s next single, Kimi ni 100 Percent/Furisodation, is a double-A-side release that comes out on January 30, 2013 which is one day after her 20th birthday.
Kimi ni 100 Percent is the next theme song for long-running Japanese anime series Crayon Shin-chan, while Furisodation is a very special song that Yasutaka Nakata has written specifically to celebrate Kyary’s 20th birthday – the age at which an individual is considered an adult in Japan.
The accomplished artiste (and her production staff) previously won an award for the jacket design on her debut album, Moshimoshi Harajuku. On receiving the award, Kyary said that “[the staff] would like to continue putting out such quirky and funny-looking designs for our future releases.”
True to her word, the jacket design for her next single features a quirky concept as well: “What Kyary Pamyu Pamyu would look like after she’s become an adult.”
On the jacket for the limited first-print edition, fans will get to see “what Kyary would look like on her wedding day”, while the cover on the regular edition shows “what Kyary would look like if she became an actress”.
