The celebration may be months away, but as early as now, Natsume Yuujinchou (Natsume’s Book of Friends) is getting prepped for its 10th year anniversary.
The popular supernatural/slice of life manga created by Yuki Midorikawa started out as a one shot in LaLaDX’s July issue which went available in May 2003. Afterwards, it began its serialization in 2005 and in 2008, it was transferred to the main LaLa magazine.
Natsume Yuujinchou is a story about Takashi Natsume, a teenager who sees spirits since he was a child. He inherited a strange notebook (called the Yuujinchou) from his deceased grandmother and soon finds out from a spirit cat (he calls Nyanko-sensei) that it is the reason why spirits are always after him. Each leaf serves as a binding contract between the spirit (who owns the name written in the notebook) and the possessor of the Yuujinchou. After discovering this, Takashi decides to return the names of the spirits to set them free and makes a deal to transfer the ownership of the notebook to Nyanko-sensei after he dies.
If you’re enjoying Takashi Natsume’s heart-warming adventures with the fat, yet adorable Nyanko-sensei and the other spirits, I would bet that you’ll be looking forward to the soon-to-be released novel, which is a part of the anniversary celebration. Sadayuki Murai (the script writer of the Natsume Yuujinchou TV anime) will be writing the manga series’ novel counterpart. It is slated for release on January 4 together with the 15th volume of the manga. On the same day, a special give away will also be launched.
But wait, there’s more! As part of the festivities, MANGART BEAMS is working on the anniversary t-shirts.
