If you’re a fan of both Fate/stay night and magical girls, you should keep your eyes on this upcoming spin-off.
It has been announced that the anime adaptation of Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya will air in Japan this summer. The anime stars the small aristocrat Illyasviel von Einzbern (aka Illya) from the visual novel Fate/stay night. The story is set in an alternate universe in which Illya is an average middle school girl who receives magic powers from a Kaleidostick named Magical Ruby. With the power to transform into a magical girl, Illya must fight enemies and collect seven Class Cards.
It’s a quirky twist on the serious anime, but it will feel familiar to fans of the original work, as it features many of the same characters.
The cast from the original work is also returning with some new actors to perform in the spin-off:
- Mai Kadowaki as Illya
- Kaori Nazuka as Miyu
- Kana Ueda as Rin
- Shizuka Itou as Luvia
- Naoko Takano as Ruby
- Miyu Matsuki as Sapphire
The anime adaptation of Prisma Illya was first revealed at last year’s Type-Moon Fes. 10th Anniversary Event and is being animated by the studio Silver Link (Baka to Test to Shokanjuu, Kokoro Connect). While you’re waiting for the anime to come this summer, you can check out the manga version of Prisma Illya, which was created by Hiroshi Hiroyama and has two sequels.
