For several years, Level-5 has been working hard on their ambitious transmedia projects. Now, the newest RPG from the developer responsible for Professor Layton and Inazuma Eleven is slated to be released in Japan this summer for the 3DS.
Youkai Watch is centered around Keita, a boy who lives in the suburban Sakura New Town. One summer day, he goes outside to collect bugs when he finds a mysterious watch that gives him the power to see youkai, monsters from Japanese folklore.
When he walks around town, Keita meets nice youkai who become his friends, as well as not-so-nice youkai who pick fights with him. In battles, Keita can use Youkai Badges to summon his youkai friends to fight for him. With the help of his Youkai Watch, Keita can also search for youkai hiding around the town (or in people’s houses) and solve quests and mysteries to make more friends.
