The 3DS remake of Digimon World Re:Digitize offers a lot more than the PSP version, including a new character voiced by Haruka Tomatsu and an epilogue to keep the adventure going.
Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode is the latest installment in the Digimon World RPG series, in which you explore a virtual world while raising and fighting Digimon. Although they’re not as popular as Pokemon, Digimon has built its own fanbase through multiple anime series and its video game lineup.
In the newest trailer from Namco Bandai, you can get a peek of the new chapter unlocked after completing the main story, with human character designs by Suzuhito Yasuda, who also worked on Durarara!! and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor.
Those of you familiar with the PSP game will have noticed one new playable character, Rina Shinomiya, played by the voice actress Haruka Tomatsu (Asuna from Sword Art Online). When she is teleported into the Digital World, she teams up with Veemon, the Digimon made famous by the anime Digimon Adventure 02. The two of them unite with the main characters to defeat Barbamon, one of the seven Great Demon Lords.
Like the main characters, Rina has the Decode ability, which lets her raise Digimon to their fullest potential. Her partner Veemon is a powerful ally who is capable of Armor Digivolving into special Digimon, although he is quite formidable Digivolving normally into Veedramon, Aero Veedramon, and Alforce Veedramon (they weren’t in Digimon Adventure 02, so don’t worry if you’re an old school Digimon fan and you don’t recognize them).
As mentioned in the trailer, the first print run of the game will include a Digimon trading card featuring Rina and Veemon.
In addition to the Scheming Demon Lord subplot, the 3DS remake features another subplot titled “The Lamentable X-Antibody”, plus a new Decode system that enhances your Digimon’s skills. Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode goes on sale on June 27, so mark your calendars, Digimon fans.
