If you’ve been watching anime since you were little, you probably had the chance to watch the TV series Kagaku Ninjatai Gatchaman. This year, fans of the franchise will be able to watch a live action adaptation of this sci-fi action anime on the big screen.
Gatchaman’s live action film was confirmed last year. Now, the official movie website has revealed its first trailer and a new image.
The upcoming Gatchaman movie is set in a futuristic Tokyo, where the world faces a new nemesis called the “Galactor”. This technologically advanced terrorist group has seized control of half of the world. Nambu Kouzaburou, a scientist, decides fight against mankind’s new threat by forming the Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. The group consists of five young heroes with excellent ninjutsu skills. They are dressed in costumes called G Suits.

The G Suits are something noteworthy in this movie production. According Matsuzaka, these costumes fit them perfectly. It was also revealed that the suits were designed to withstand the harsh demands of the movie’s action scenes. Of course, this comes with a price. All in all, the suits cost 20 million yen (that’s 248,424 SGD!). On top of that, the creation of the suits took more than one year.
The live action movie is directed by Toya Sato, with its screenplay written by Yusuke Watanabe.
Gatchaman is slated to premiere on August 24 in Japan.
