In a first for any Gundam anime series, studio Sunrise is putting up brand new episodes of their latest work, Gundam Build Fighters, for the whole world to see on the Gundam.info portal for free – and each episode is simulcasted on the same day the show airs on television in Japan.
Of course, by “the whole world” what we really mean is, “most parts of the world”; depending on where you live, there may be a chance that the simulcasted episodes are not available in your country.
If you’re reading this from Singapore, however, the videos definitely work:
Set in a futuristic world where Gunpla (Gundam plastic models) can be piloted externally when immersed in a field of “Plavsky particles”, and the popular pasttime of the day are remote-controlled Gunpla Battles, Gundam Build Fighters tells the story of junior high school student Sei Iori, the son of a former Gunpla Battle grand prix champion.
Sei possesses extraodinary talent for assembling Gunpla kits, which gives his an edge for his opponents as a Gunpla kit’s performance largely depends on how well-built it is.
Unfortunately, Sei lacks the piloting skills necessary for him to do well at Gunpla Battle tournaments – a trait he laments due to his aspiration to be just like his father.
Through a chance encounter, however, Sei runs into a mysterious young boy named Reiji, who possesses extraordinary skill in remote-piloting Gunpla kits, despite never having done it before.
Together, the two form a team and head for the championships.
Gundam Build Fighters is simulcasted on Gundam.info every Monday.
The show introduces original Gundam units, but also features a great number of mobile suits from past series.
