During the 21st Busan International Film Festival, the film’s director, Makoto Shinkai, talked about his plans for his next movie.


The critically-acclaimed director best known for his other masterpieces like The Garden of Words and 5 Centimeters Per Second has revealed that much like your name., his next movie will also be about teenage boys and girls. He also said that he would also like to make his next work over at TOHO in the next three years.

Shinkai also talked about the man that people are always comparing him to, and that is the Academy Award-winning Ghibli director, Hayao Miyazaki. People have always said that he is either the “Next Hayao Miyazaki” or the “Post-Miyazaki Director.” To the latter, he said that fans and critics are overestimating him.

As for your name., the movie is now the 6th highest grossing Japanese movie of all time (live-action and animated), earning over 12 billion yen in the span of a month. The film was screened in this year’s Busan Film Festival, where Shinkai talked about his plans for his next work.
