With the Kuroko’s Basketball: Last Game film premiering in Japanese theaters this March 18, the anime has teamed up with the world’s premiere Basketball league, the NBA. Previously, the collaboration featured Taiga Kagami in a Chicago Bulls jersey, and now, here are a few more of them:
Shintarou Midorima x Boston Celtics
The character most associated with the color green is channeling his inner Larry Bird as he is featured wearing the colors of the franchise many consider as the NBA’s most hallowed and prestigious team.
Kuroko Tetsuya x San Antonio Spurs
San Antonio’s legendary French point guard, Tony Parker, has been known to misdirect his oponents with blinding speed and passing skills. Like Kuroko, the team is also known to be very simple and often does not stand out much… until your team faces them and beats you up.
Seijuro Akashi x Los Angeles Lakers
Lakers icon, Magic Johnson, has dazzled fans with his quick wit in the court. Many say that he has plenty of similarities with Akashi, and that may be why he’s wearing the vaunted purple and gold.
Ryouta Kise x Golden State Warriors
The Warriors are currently the best team and the NBA. They are flashy and stand out a lot, much like Ryouta Kise… they still blew a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals though!
Atsushi Murasakibara x Phoenix Suns
Murasakibara is from Akita Prefecture, which is also where the first Japanese NBA player, Yuta Tabuse is from. Tabuse may have only played a few games before going back to Japan, but he played for the Phoenix Suns, and that may be why Atsushi Murasakibara is donning the uniform of the team which featured greats like Steve Nash and Charles Barkley.
The collaboration will feature a total of eight NBA teams, which will be revealed gradually along with characters from the manga. Series creator, Tadatoshi Fujimaki himself chose these eight teams, and anime character designer Yoko Kikuchi will be posting new reveals daily.
Collaboration goodies will soon be announced in the days to come, and will be sold in several Japanese stores, including the Seibu Ikebukuro Flagship store. As for the Kuroko’s Basketball: Last Game movie, it premieres on March 18, 2017.
