The live-action Ghost in the Shell film has had some mixed reviews outside of Japan, but generally, Japanese fans are really excited. The topic of whitewashing may have left a bad taste in a lot of non-Japanese, but in the country, the fans are actually happy with Scarlett Johansson’s selection. And with that, Production I.G., which produced the original 1995 anime movie, revealed that they are also making a brand new anime project for the franchise.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex director, Kenji Kamiyama, will be co-directing the new anime project with Appleseed’s Shinji Aramaki. The new anime will be a joint production alongside Kodansha.

However, they haven’t announced any further details about this new project, so stay tuned for more details.
