We here at SGCafe like to shed the spotlight on local Southeast Asian works every now and then, and we usually feature ones from here in Singapore. However, we’ve come across an upcoming game from Filipino developers, Indigo Entertainment. It’s called Garrison: Archangel, and so far, we think it looks great. And we think it’s something fans of the mecha genre should definitely check out.

The game is still a work in progress, but as many have noted, it’s showing a ton of promise. So far, it features a basic fighting game concept where players choose a fighter, in this case, a from a variety of giant robots, and players can beat each other to a pulp.

It also has something like Soul Calibur’s character creator, where players can create their own mechs to use in the game’s mecha battles. This feature is called “Garage Mode”, and it lets you pick your mecha’s color scheme, body parts, and armaments to suit your taste or gameplay style. However, the parts you use to create your mech will determine your new robot’s stats. It may be totally up to you on how your mecha looks, but you always have to keep in mind that your robot’s stats and game style will be affected by your decisions. According to most players who’ve tried out the demo, mixing and matching parts and weapons in Garage Mode” is a huge part of what makes the game so fun.

The game itself seems to have much inspiration from games like Bloodborne and Dark Souls, as there is much emphasis on dodging and parrying. However, those who played the demo have said that Garrison: Archangel’s gameplay is much faster than the two above-mentioned games. Because this is a fighting game, reaction speed plays a much bigger role.

The game is still a work in progress, and many of the demo players have noted that the game still lacks a multiplayer mode. But don’t worry though, because it looks like Indigo Entertainment is working on it as they’re committed to making it happen.

They will be releasing the game sometime in Q1 2018, and hopefully, it won’t just make the Philippines’ gaming industry more promising and competitive, but the entire Southeast Asian region as well.
