Tomohiro Matsu made a name for himself with Listen to Me Girls, I am Your Father and Mayoi Nako Overrun. However, he passed away last year. His legacy will live on with his works, including Märchen Mädchen, which according to Melon Utsonomiya is also getting an anime adaptation.

The light novel’s second volume revealed the anime adaptation, along with the fact that it’s also getting a manga version. Matsu worked on the series’ concept for three years and thankfully, he completed it before passing away. The light novels follow Hazuki Kagimura, a normal girl who is usually alone. With her relationship with her new family not going so well, she retreats every day to the world of stories and books. One day, after school, one of the library’s bookshelves sends her to another world with a magic school, where she meets Shizuka Tsuchimikado. She finds out that girls (called “mädchen”) who attend the school are selected by old fairy tails and folk stories to wield their magic, and are taught how to wield it in the school. The school has girls who are chosen by such stories as Kaguya-hime no Monogatari, Issun-bōshi, Der Freischütz, Shuten-dōji, The Little Matchstick Girl, The Gigantic Turnip, Arthurian legends, and The Ramayana. Hazuki herself is chosen by the Cinderella story. She begins her new life at the school to become a magic user, and be friends with Shizuka.

Renowned Japanese illustrator, Kantoku, illustrated the light novels, with Matsu still being credited as the author. Unfortunately, they didn’t reveal any further details on this new anime. Expect the staff to reveal more details, such as cast, release period, and format (TV anime, movie, or OVA) in the days ahead.

Matsu passed away due to an unspecified sickness last May 2, 2016. Though he has completed his two most well known novels in Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father! and Mayoi Neko Overrun, he passed away without completing Hatena Illusion, which would remain unfinished at four volumes. His final published work was a novel released last January, and it is titled Isekai Kazoku Hyouryuuki Fushigi no Shima no Elza.
