Bandai has just held the GunPla Builders World Cup finals in Diver City Tokyo, near the life-size Gundam Unicorn statue. And while Japan retook their crown last year, it looks like 2017 is Philippines’ year to shine! This is because Philippine champion, Mark Mediavillo, took first place in the competition with his diorama, “Enemy Spotted”.
Taking second place in the Open Category is Homg Kong’s Lui Chun with FRX-300 Gundam Leonidas.
As for third place in the Open Category, China’s Wu XiaoHui took home the bronze trophy with SADNESS’S IN THE PAIN FELT.
And while Japan failed to make the Top 3 in the Open Category, Junior Champion, Mei Hata, who dazzled the grown-ups back in 2014 when she was still 11, finally won the big one with her work, Devil’s contract – the final redemption.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s James Lim Yuan Soon made Southeast Asia proud by taking 2nd place with Endeavour.
Finally, Hong Kong’s Lau Chun Hei took 3rd place in the Junior Category with FATAL ATTACK.
The Southeast Asian region has traditionally done well in the Gundam Builders World Cup. In 2014, Malaysia’s Andy Wong won the Open Category, while in 2015, Thailand won the Open Category and Indonesia won the Junior Category.
