After much success in the Japanese box office, it looks like the live-action Gintama movie is getting a sequel. Tentatively titled “Gintama 2,” the movie’s staff have revealed that Yuichi Fukuda will be reprising his role as Gimtoki. It will also premiere in August 17, 2018.
And with Gintoki himself returning, the staff also confirmed that actor Jiro Sato is returning to star in the movie, but didn’t reveal his new role. In the first movie, Hanpei Takechi, the perverted samurai. They also confirmed that director and screenwriter, Yuichi Fukuda is also returning to direct the movie.
Gintama 2 is now in pre-production, with principal filming set to begin early this month. As for further details, expect the staff to announce more about the cast, story, and trailers in the days to come.
Previously, the first film featured Gintoki, Shinpachi, Kagura, and
Zura Katsura and Elizabeth, as well as Takasugi and Ogata. They also revealed the Shinsengumi members in costume as well. Shun Oguri plays Gintoki, while Masaki Suda plays Shinpachi Shimura and Kanna Hashimoto plays Kagura.
The film is slated to premiere in July 14, 2017, with the the live-action Hentai Kamen movies’s Yuuichi Fukuda directing.
