When we talk about manga with no anime adaptations but really deserves one, Makoto Yukimura’s Vinland Saga may be near the top of the list. But now, the award-winning manga is getting its much-deserved anime adaptation from Attack on Titan’s WiT Studio and anime production company, Twin Engine. They even released an announcement PV:
Series mangaka Makoto Yukimura also released a new visual to celebrate the new TV anime adaptation.
Set in the Viking Age of Dark Ages Europe, the manga has gained much notoriety and praise. Here’s how Kodansha describes the manga’s story:
Thorfinn is son to one of the Vikings’ greatest warriors, but when his father is killed in battle by the mercenary leader Askeladd, he swears to have his revenge. Thorfinn joins Askeladd’s band in order to challenge him to a duel, and ends up caught in the middle of a war for the crown of England.
Of course, the manga received plenty of awards. the Best General Manga award in Kodansha’s 36th Annual Manga Awards in 2012, as well as the Grand Prize in the manga division in the Ministry of Cultural Affairs’ 13th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 2009.
Several TV stations will be airing the anime in Japan, while Amazon Prime has the streaming rights. And they won’t just stream the anime in Japan, but also abroad. However, the staff didn’t reveal any further details, so expect them to make more announcements in the days to come.
