The Kodansha Manga Award is considered one of the most prestigious awards to receive in the manga industry. Now, Kodansha has revealed the winners for their various awards, which include Best Shounen, Best Shoujo, and Best General manga. The winners for the 42nd Annual Kodansha Manga Awards are:
Best Shounen Manga: Beastars by Paru Itagaki
Other Nominees for the Best Shounen Category include: The Heroic Legend of Arslan, In/Spectre, and Cells at Work!.
Best Shoujo Manga: Toumei na Yurikago by Bakka Okita
Other Nominees for the Best Shoujo Manga include: Lovesick Ellie, Kore wa Kitto Koi Janai, and Suteki na Kareshi.
Best General Manga (2 winners)
Sanju Mariko by Yuki Ozawa
Fragile – Byourii Kishi Keiichirou no Shoken
Other nominees for the Best General Manga Category also include Tongari Boushi no Atelier and Hare Kon.
A selection committee comprised of big-name mangaka selected the nominees. They include Ken Akamatsu, Tochi Ueyama, Oh! great, Atsushi Kase, Miyuki Kobayashi, Yuuji Moritaka, and Waki Yamato. The winners will receive a certificate, a bronze statuette, and a 1 million yen cash prize. And while Kodansha is the one handing out the awards, the winners and nominees aren’t necessarily from Kodansha. For example, this year’s winner for Best Shounen Manga, Beastars, is from Akita Shouten.
Previous winners include Days and Kiss Him Not Me, as well as Nakaba Suzuki’s The Seven Deadly Sins and Wataru Watanabe’s Yowamushi Pedal .
