The live-action Gintama movie exceeded expectations and went on to become one of the most successful live-action adaptations of manga. However, it seems that it somehow lied. And that’s why for its sequel, Gintama 2 Kari, the new movie’s teaser trailer apologized for its mistake.
First, the Yorozuya trio of Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Kagura apologized for a line spoken during the first movie. They then showed a few clips from Gintama 2 before saying that this new movie will both be the first and last live-action Gintama movie. A narration and text would later apologize for what the three said… again.
Shun Oguri (Gintoki Sakata), Masaki Suda (Shinpachi Shimura), and Kanna Hashimoto (Kagura) are all returning for the sequel. They also previously confirmed that director and screenwriter, Yuichi Fukuda is also returning to direct the movie. It will be premiering in Japan on August 17, 2018.
Previously, the staff also confirmed that actor Jiro Sato is returning to star in the movie, but didn’t reveal his new role. In the first movie, he played Hanpei Takechi, the perverted samurai. Expect the staff to reveal more details about Gintama 2’s other characters in the days to come.
The first film premiered in July of last year, and it earned 980 million yen in just its first four days, topping the Japanese box office.
