Besides having good quality subtitles, accurate time codes and having original Japanese tracks in it,
what else will make you buy anime DVDs released by ODEX?
Please give constructive recommendations.
Negative Demonstration:
(I'll pay $1 if your DVD comes with 13 episodes, USA quality with Dolby 5.1, English Chinese Malay Tamil Thai Korean subtitles,
Japanese Chinese English Hokkien dub, interview with creator, interview with creator's mother, interview with creator's mistress etc. etc.)
Is your purchase driven by titles?
(You can coat your BIG-O DVD in gold, I'll still buy GUNDAM SEED DVD even if its wrapped in vegetables)
Is your purchase driven by DVD periferals?
(I'll buy that BETTERMAN DVD that comes with a 1 meter cloth poster, to hell with FMA DVD since there is no poster, I need that cloth to wear for tomorrow's school assembly)
Is your purchase driven by Price?
What would be the highest price that you are willing to pay?
Is your purchase driven by Video quality of the DVD?
(I will only buy if the DVD have bit-rate 7 and above)
(Si Mi Si bit-rate? As long as video quality better than VCD can liao, squeeze 13 episodes in it lah)
Is your purchase driven by special features?
If it is, what kind of special features?
Interviews? Studio tour of GONZO? or Trailers of upcoming releases?
Will you buy DVDs with no English subtitles?
Japanese & Chinese dub with Chinese subtitles.
Kindly give logical and economical suggestions so that we can cater to your needs.

usually people prefer the vcds in original japanese tracks cos some dubbings really suck. and we obviously need subs. english would be better. the price depends on the quality and no. of episodes though. the highest i am willing to pay would be 50bucks. and although special features are not the ones which attract me to buy the dvds, i think it will be a bonus. (: hahha i hope my feedback is constructive enough. -

the dvd should be of high quality, like put maybe around 6 eps in 1 dvd.
english sub is a must.
english dub is a bonus.
special feature such as interview with the anime producer or the making is a bonus too.
dvd release must be fast and up to dates. So if the dvd is out in japan, here should follow too. not wait like months then release here...
the dvd should be in original format, if it suppose to be uncensored, then it suppose to be uncensored, be it the bad language or might be of partial nudity, the blood and gore, etc etc.
for the price, let say each dvd ill pay 20-25 buks, reasonable i say.

Wow... You are really the ODEX Peter?
For the DVDs... I think good subbing and video quality, is the most important...
Dun mind if I say this... For me, I feel that the subtitle quality on the VCDs are really not up to standard...
I dunno... Maybe get a better translator and quality control or something?
And the titles or packaging also plays a part too... I will definatly buy the DVD for One Piece or FMA... Coz I am a fan of them...
If I see an unknown title... I would judge it by the packaging...
That's all I have to comment on...

no.1 no censorship
no.2 video quality
no.3 price
regarding 1. i'm not willing to accept any removal of scenes, blanking out of dialogue, or any mosiac. ie the casshern movie (about 16 minutes of footage was removed from the nc16 version, i fear for the PG viewers.) it's just plain rude to the director to modify his work artistic integrity and all. i know that's asking for the impossible, considering the SBA. well, too bad for you guys. it's expensive but i'm content with R2.
2 and 3 is just plain QC.

p7r has reappeared!!!!! Time to comment...
DVDs must have around 4-6 eps per DVD (of course 6 ep is the best)
Please have DVD QUALITY in DVDs not VCD quality in DVDs. Otherwise no point it being DVD...
Subs please revise at least twice before throwing it in... It's funny to see original stuff having worse subs than fansubs...
Like what Shinichi has said... English sub is a must (Chinese TOO... preferably traditional chinese? okay that was a bad idea... simplified would suffice) english dub I never listen to it anyway so again like what shinichi has said, it's a bonus...
Packaging PLEASE have GOOD PACKAGING... If it's just a paper box with a CD pouch containing DVDs, that sucks... To set a standard, AT LEAST have packaging standards that of TW and HK bootlegs. Their packaging are gorgeous... although not very special...
Pricing... depends... I am willing to pay $15 - $20 per DVD for quality bootlegs.... so maybe $25-$30 per disc for original? And TRY... just TRY to keep the OD3X logo small.... Please don't splat a freakin big logo on the cover...
Edit: Right... like nismos has said... Censorship = i won't buy

Just a simple example of the packaging standard...
Eg. of BAD packaging:
Throwing a DVD(even if it's nicely printed) inside a freakin ugly DVD plastic box won't get you my money... I bought the above only because it was selling cheap and it's original...I think...
Eg. of good packaging:
The above although is packaged in a paper packaging, it's hard cover and every page is nicely designed. DVDs nicely printed... Hardcover box... Of course if you would like to use plastic instead I don't mind BUT if it's the kind of party cup plastic then that sucks too...
Just a simple eg. of my minimum standard of packaging... I don't know about the other consumers though...

Rank most important
ABSOLUTE BEFORE ! PRICE!!Blue max selling 24 episodes for only $69.90. Usa that as a gauge.
1.Special fetures.(interviews with director, makin gof the anime, etc. Hows about adding some anime music videos.?)
2.good quality subs
If you want dubs, i say get the USA english dubs because those are wayyy better than those done locally.
Nowadays got dvds with 3 audio. Hows jap, USA dub and chinese dub. I, and quite many other people i know, NEVER buy dvds unless they come in jap and USA dub.
I heck care about anything else as good packaging will mean higher price.
Extras like posters will also mean higher price unless the posters are a pormotion thing. eg: dvd boxset comes with lucky draw coupon. 20 lucky winners stand a chance to win poster.
Or for those posters be a prize for regularly orgaised contests?
eg: New slogan for odex contest - prize (some limited edition poster maybe?) or " Make a anime music video for up coming dvd release - prize is have your amv in the dvd and another poster"
something like that.
oh T_T|| You have rahxephon!
care to sell??

1. quality of the anime.. (the resolution.. and clarity)
2. The special features
I tends to watch fansubs to see which anime is good before is nice.. i wont care what extra free gifts they give.. they dun give also good.. cos those with free gifts tends to be more ex..
A very simple way to compare.. what makes it soo different that i must buy DVD.. which cost more.. rather than buying a cheaper dvd.. if they have those quality of vcd.. i would rather buy a vcd.. that is the main thing to think about
packaging wise.. i dun mind what box they use.. what i will look at.. is the cover.. i will only compare which cover is nicer.. but it would be good to do some quality work for the box in order to attract more ppl.. out there.. some series have many versions.. so what will make ur dvd more attractive than others.. that is also another thing that can be thought about..
price wise.. i dun mind paying more than vcds.. but within the limit of max of $30++ - $40++... since this is singapore which is distributing the animes.. there is always a need to understand that not majority of the youths able to afford that much..
one more thing to add.. it would attract me more if they distribute old-sch animes like YST..
basically i m a anything type of person.. but in terms of pov of viewers.. i also stated on top le -

maybe odex should have a look on how the taiwan official re-distributors pack their dvds as well as how they master the contents in it.
price is onemajor factor which drives people buying dvd.
taking R2(taiwan) DVDs for example. they are able to make it around SGD25 for a 3 ep DVD. which is quite reasonable.
but if odex wants to say that SG market is too small to have $25 per 3 ep as the revenue can't balance out the overall production cost. I strongly believe that Odex should reconsider hitting on the local anime dvd market.
