I quote L-Lawliet. ========================================================== Friday. 7.13.07 10:31 pm Oh god. I feel so guilty now. My mum called AVPAS ytd. They say that if my mum admit guilty now. They will settle it out of court. And yeah, this has become my mum's case. Cause she was the one that signed for the internet line. I feel so sorry for her. Cant really express my feelings well now. Anyway if she admits guilty, it would be depend on whether the japan anime company wants to charge her. If yes, she might have to go to jail, and pay a fine of near 10k. Shit, god please dont make this happen. Please. Anyway if i admit guilty i will have a high chance of going boys home. Either way it sucks. Having really bad thoughts on life now. I still want to take my exams peacefully and go up to poly all these one leh. Dont want to have any record in my life. I never ever believed in things like jesus, god, the buddhas. But now i pray to everyone of you. Help. I feel very very very lost now. And for all the sgreans here. Tell you something. Its totally totally not worth it. Please stop dling anime now. Now i dont even dare to ddl. Cause i have no idea what odex will do to contact with several ddl provider. Its hard its hard. But please try to curb your anime addiction. And if you think that "ah ya wont so suay kana me one la" Please just dump your mentality into the rubbish bin. Cause thats what i thought, and i got owned now. I seriously giving up in my anime watching liao. Considering the kind of otaku i was in the past. I dont even have the mood to attend cosfest today. Will work hard during holidays and pay my mum i think. And i deleted my anime related modules. This is singapore. There is no democracy. In the first place i dont singtel is supposed to review their customers IE data log. But things have happened. BUT STILL. I NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER WILL BUY ANY PRODUCTS FROM ODEX. Sorry mum, sorry sorry sorry. Feel like dying now. ========================================================= ...Think about it... |

More from his site. And finally, this is what i feel. Its not just a simple matter of piracy. Its about a passion being taken away. Imagine you have been reading comics since they are $4.00. And slowly you moved on to animes. And gradually you have been addicted to the world of animes. For mayb like 10years? One day you recieved a letter that indirectly says " MUAHAHAHAH. YOU IS TEH KANA PAWN. YOU IS TEH NOW OFFICIALLY CANNOT DL ANYMORE ANIME. AND WE ARE GOING TO SEIZE AND DESTORY YOUR PASSION! MUAHAHAHA" And the worst part is, you cant do anything about it. All you can do is stare blankly at the piece of paper and pay the damm 3~5k. Sucks. Imagine anime being 80% of your life and suddenly its gone, vanishing into thin air. So what the fark will you do with the remaining 80%? Join some kind of secert society? Smoke? Take part in gangsterism activites? Or just lay down hopeless thinking of ending your life? GG everybody. I told this to my mum about this actually and she said, "oh dear, you cant always have what you want in life you see." Thats the worst excuse a mum can ever give. And i am having the urge to just smash my living room tv so she wont be able to watch her lame ass taiwan variety show, and when she screams at me for it. I would tell her the exact same thing. FARK. No ones understands. Cept for all world wide otakus. |

Well, according to his web his views changed about odex though: Quote:
And I can almost be certain it'll still be rising. Most just might not come out about it. *Sigh*..sad thing is they won't even consider warning letter+further observation. No...instead you get slapped with something you did 2 years ago and an "admit it or die" finality.

There's more peeps, some pm-ed me asking what will happen and so on. Just that their names are confidential lah... This guy L-Lawliet should just do what I've done, step out and admit that HE was the one who downloaded the stuff. I mean, it's very depressing to know that someone helped you take the rap for something right. No, you won't be set to boys' home yet. I think it's damn ridiculous to classify it under "warning" letter when you're not given another chance. They said, call up and settle in the letter. I wonder why the hell will they wanna tell us the possibility of still going to court/jail/whatever. After all, you called up so that you can find a way to resolve this matter right? Whatever, I recieved the letter 2 days before Cosfest, and just when I had to prepare all my stuff. A full day just ruined like that. Hopefully this guy is feeling better. The money used for the reimburstment fee could jolly well be spent on going overseas with my family after 8 years of being stucked in SG. "BUT STILL. I NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER WILL BUY ANY PRODUCTS FROM ODEX" same same same. |

Tonkun: I agree with him, the person I spoke to was Peter. Very pleasant guy. Now that I know why subtitles are sucky at certain animes etc...so yeah. But then again, I said gazillion times I can't help feeling pissed mainly because of the money. T^T And that's also why I mention that if anyone have burning questions, you can always call them up right... |

To be honest 3-4k is really letting you off with a slight slap to the wrist. If you wanted to slug it out in the court they will be happy to oblige, in fact they want you to do that. They can basically sue you to hell if they wanted. The fact is if other anit-piracy org came in the sum can easily hit 10-20k just to settle, and be sure if this anime dler sweep is a success alot more anit-piracy orgs will move in and ownz your ass.

K, so you've got saints over at odex doing not-so-saintly things. And yea, "H.I.P" has become rather subjective. Imagine this scene: The anime market is monitored by odex. They spot a popular series everyone is talking about. (And they can't be talking about it unless they have seen it...=.=) They then proceed to license the anime. Say a year later they're awarded the license and rights to distribute. Then they decide:"Hey, let's look for the people that downloaded the anime 2 years ago!" They proceed to 'bite the hand that fed them' (with the popularity info). Letters are dispatched. Quality of releases STILL sucks. And the cycle repeats. Yay for Odex. Pwned the dlers. =.=" Silly, isn't it?

Ok, now I've seen the story and for the convenince of others who are clueless. Here we go... Legal threats towards fansub downloaders As of 1 June 2007, Odex has sent letters to people downloading anime fansubs of series from Japanese companies that Odex represents. The letter threatens legal action against its recipients. It is stated that the recipient is given a period of time to contact Odex for an out-of-court settlement, and if Odex is not contacted within the deadline, legal proceedings will be issued. It is unclear how Odex managed to obtain personal information of people that they suspect of downloading anime fansubs using Bittorrent programs, and information as to how many people have actually received such letters were withheld by Odex. However, general opinion holds that ISPs like Singnet, etc. were responsible for the disclosure of personal information. It is also believed that due to its poor sales, Odex has to resort to legal actions for revenue, as there exist a large number of people who obtains anime online via torrents, whom at the same time due to the transparency of ISPs like Singnet, make easily legal targets for Odex. However, it must be noted that due to its' low marketing presence in the local anime market, many anime fans have never heard of Odex. Furthermore, Odex has been attempting to encourage purchases of its' anime vcds/dvds in place of original Japanese anime and anime produced by other English anime companies in order to beef up its' sales. However, it remains to be seen whether anime imports will be banned. Of important note is that Odex apparently has the legal right to commence legal action against people downloading anime fansubs of series that they do not sell, as long as they are produced by the Japanese companies that they represent, as Odex is under AVPAS directive to curb video piracy. The response on anime-related online communities and forums has generally been negative, ranging from sharp criticisms of Odex's video quality and business model, to impassioned outcries for a boycott of Odex or of the anime market. =========================== So while Odex reserves the rights to take legal action against us people. I guess they just hate to admit they suck big time. [And can't be bothered to do anything about it] To think I occasionally buy Odex material and DL at the same time. We must all be idiots to wait months/years for the licensed anime to be on sale and get dirt-crap quality at $30 a box. Congratz Odex, you thought you knew everything there is, but you are just about to start terminating anime popularity in Singapore; As well as your future in this business. Good going to planning your probable self-destruction.
