How does one put add-ons to normal clothes to make them look more lolita??
(Sorry guys..am I asking dumb-assed questions?)
Revolver

Maybe you can try adding lace to collared shirts?

you might want to elaborate on what kind of add-ons you're referring to? and perhaps what kind of lolita styles you're keen on? :)

I'm bending more on the wa-sou style and I'd want to make my skirts(knee length or abt there;black;plain)more "wa-sou"ish. :)
yay!!! <3 wasou rocks.
well...do you mind posting a pic of what you want to modify so....we can all get a clearer idea of what to suggest?

eh..don't have cam now....I'll try to get it up by and by..just post your random comments on ideas of making things "wasou"-ish..I'm thinking of doing the Kagrra style thing since they are....
yay!!!! kagrra,!!!!! are you going for razor's photoshoot? because i'm going wasou-visualstyle!
umm...how about adding an "obi" to the top, like tie a long sash around your waist. might looks kimono-like.

Miss Meow

wow...wasou + visual..I'll officially call you my wasou sensei now.
Razor's photoshoot..maybe..see how,must study....where is it?
not confirmed yet...wait...i'll get you the link. Freak0ut and i are going for the december shoot. (no!!! don't call me that! i am unworthy!!! it's going t be my very first wasou style >_<)
erm....try to get one piece that'll cover your entire abdomen, all around, and a slimmer-longer one to wrap around and hold it in place. that kind of thing's quite easy to make yourself, by just cutting and GLUEING! cloth xD.

erm....sashes...you'll have to make them i think, i think satin'll look good for basic sashes. erm...you can glue it to your blouse if you want but then it won't be adjustable.

that question was directed to me?? lol...I thought it was for Max-san...
XDD...Nao looks like an anime character? wow.....
um..sashes are just pieces of cloth right? so..don't need to sew..just tie around each other right? oh..what about the gluing part? I don't understand....T.T
My idea: maybe you can get some kimono-ish fabric and just tie it into a simple bow around your waist...? :)
OMG nao DOES NOT look like ishida... it's like insulting naoran... T^T
erm...it might be loose, but you'll have to keep adjusting it constantly...it's a real headache :P

I'm scared of big puffy skirts...
Max-sensei~~~~I still don't get it..(btw,do you do this to your clothes too?)
ok..this is what I understand now at this point in time:
2 sashes, one big and one small.
Glue the smaller one on the bigger one(center).
Tie it into a bow at the back.
Am I right? and is $15 for clothes glue cheap?
and where else do I get such fabrics(and what fabrics do you suggest) aother than Arab street?(it's far and I'm really scared to go there alone)
Crucifixation
18-09-2005, 03:45 PM
You might find this to be of use. $15 for fabric glue is a bit expensive, and I wouldn't really recomment it for big pieces of cloth. If you have a sewing machine, it'll be a lot easier.

Get a pannier to put under a normal circle skirt? It'll make it puff out an amazing lot... But sitting down is quite space consuming...
well. i use a cheater form of kimono-obi, it's also kind of like the "modern kimono" that's gaining popularity in Japan. i.e. right-side over left, smaller obi, shorter sleeves...etc.
erm....i'll post a pic of my cheater-obi for you soon. as well as my wasou-VK blouse, which i'll be using for Razor's shoot. though it has triangle sleeves, instead of square...i was watching twelve kingdoms at the time you see xP

ahhhhhh~~~~~~ok. I just got this !REALLY! expensive dress..and it has this "kimono-esque" pattern on it...and surprisingly,it comes with frills too XD..do you consider that wasou? oh..where to get those "cheater obi/yukata" things in sg for a low price? you know..the wrap around ones..just thinking of adding lace on the sides for a start. Yeah..post pics..I am sooo lost in this clothes thing....
eh, i got my cheater-obi tailored x3. but i think...there was a shop at the heeron where they sold a type of t-shirt/blouse tops that were fold-overs, looks a bit wasou, but still too casual, i've never seen a long-sleeved one there though.

KuroKaze

I think, Wasou is quite difficult to properly pull off. Depends on what kind of kimono blouse! If it's those kind that has the full sleeves and obi, I think that's ok. Paired with a lolita skirt, that would be good.
Miss Meow
20-09-2005, 09:29 PM
I'm planning on getting a normal black skirt and when I get a sewing machine, line some areas with kimono cloth and yeah, get a sash thingy for a obi for the blouse. um..but I have a couple of clothes with kimono-eque prints, which will suffice me for a while....I hope it's ok. .. there's nothing wrong with jeans.. there's a Japanese brand called gouk (from s-inc; the company that spawned h.NAOTO I think) which specialises in such fashion. They have jeans with traditional prints too. It just depends on how you carry off the look.
wasou with jeans would be WEIRD. but i vote simple skirt to show off the blouse. :D

Wasou with jeans = for people who do not wear skirts or dresses.
(Like me.)
Skirts are better, of course, but you know.. people have their reasons.
Thank goodness you didn't study at SMSS. You won't enjoy your secondary school life.
.. your cheater-obi is really nice, by the way. What material did you use? A friend of mine has an obi like that too. She used PVC. (:
it's made of satin, and it's been starched :D. it's really quite stiff.

Yeah, I'm still in SMSS. Secondary five. I did yell "Kagrra,!!!" during recess before. But that was two years ago.
..
Regarding hairstyles..
.. lolita hairstyle? You mean, with the sausage curls and all? It wouldn't look good for wasou. I suggest you do your hair up like Uruha's or Nao's (from Kagrra,, not Alice Nine). You know, Nao's hairstyle before he cut his hair short.

We were given flags, remember? I threw them at people as though they were darts.. anyway I think I didn't hear "I love Nao."
You can come and find me - there's only two secondary five classes anyway. Nottttt difficult. 8D Or we'll probably bump into each other anyway. Were you in the hall today for the Chem/Bio + Chem/Physics MCQ papers?
Long straight hair.. something like Inugami Circus-dan? Styling your hair is probably better, I think. With pins or those chopsticks (lol). If your hair is thick.... use hairspray to hold it up. If hairspray doesn't work - try leaving your hair unwashed for a few days, THEN use hairspray. It helps. I've tried.

Price of yukata depends on material and print, the nicer the prints and better the material the more ex... Besides bugis, taka also got, i got mine from there but prices are abt the same. But if u dun mind 2nd hand, can try the yukata auntie in jurong, i lost her phone number try to ask ard the forum bah^^". She sells them at ard 15 to 20 bucks but if u are looking for really gorgeous prints, then u'll have to either buy at bugis, buy online or get someone to buy for you from japan... The lowest price i heard from my fren who bought from japan is 45 sgd.
Or maybe just tailor it...

Yeah..I've seen this pic...um...it is ok for a beginner like me to just add lace and some other sashes to my yukata(when I get one..)? I'm a bit lost to all this. Also, when I get the yukata,I must buy the obi sash seperately or what?

- boots.

I had no idea it was Gosurori until I flipped through it. I thought it was an original Taiwanese G&L book. It's called jiao3 se4 ban4 yan3 (角色扮演) but the pages are quite average quality compared to the original Japanese one. I got it from Comics Connection at a ridiculoursly expensive price. (18 bucks) It shouldn't cost that much since it's cheaper/same price as a Taiwanese-version manga.
Hmm when buying yukata usually the obi is sold separately.
I think that's ok! Might wanna add some lace/zippers/random stuff on the yukata for that neo-gothic wasou feel.
hey, but is this chinese version any cheaper?
KuroKaze
23-09-2005, 11:59 PM
4 dollars cheaper, which isn't very much.
I really, really don't recommend getting it. Very little is actually translated into Chinese (the sewing parts are left untranslated too) plus the poorer quality... I'd recommend getting the original.
Miss Meow
24-09-2005, 12:15 AM
hmm..yeah..since the sewing parts aren't translated,it's better to get the original...um...yeah...I'll see...is it weird to ask how to make sashes? You just cut pieces of cloth and they become sashes or some sewing is still required.?
KuroKaze
24-09-2005, 12:30 AM
I think some sewing is required to make it thicker, i.e double layer?
Crucifixation
24-09-2005, 01:18 AM
Double layer = lining. You will also need to hem it (i.e folding the edges in and sewing it) to prevent it from fraying. To make it droop less, interfacing might be needed, though it might be too stiff. Just use a heavier weight cloth.
linen is a stiffer cloth which you might want to use. my cheater-obi's made of a double layer of satin and it's severely severly starched. >D severely.
Miss Meow

It's the surplus. It's not really the GLB, but the "extra", with all the cut sew patterns etc. The reason why they sold it so cheaply was because they brought in too much and was trying to get rid of it, or else MPH wouldn't have brought in GLBs at all. :P
Far east Lvl 1 is a good source of japanese fashion items, but they overcharge, as usual. There are actually full Lolita dresses (not punk, goth, but sweet, pink, frilly lolita dresses. -__-) going at $300. I think it's at Banana, near the outer part of the shop, and on a lower rack. They even use special satin cushioned hangers for them. -__-
Branching into OT-ness, those who "cosplay" lolitas are labelled by the "elitists" as ota-rori (Otaku Rori-ta). Suposedly, they are those who "got it wrong". But in singapore, it's true that the only place where we can bring out our Loli gear and not feel weird is at a convention. xD It's not mainstream enough to warrant a gathering every weekend as per Harajuku.

Hmmm... I stopped shopping at Level One after realizing the absurd prices... Now my favourite haunt are these two shops on the second or third level... Lips or Cheeks. They've got AWESOME stuff, despite being more western inclined... I mean, where else can one find cross arm warmers? And most of these can be twisted to fit Japanese street fashion... Although not quite loli in nature.

Exams tomorrow, so will be MIA for quite some time. By the way, to go to City Plaza (which is really near geylang, and thus, a lot of trashy clothes), you alight at Paya Lebar MRT station, and head (eastwards?) towards an old dingy building. You will need to cross some roads and pass a construction area. About the inventory, nothing lolita-ish, but a lot of dominatrix-worthy leather and platform shoes. Mary-janes at about 25, and boots at 68.
I think loli is harder to go alone, people tend to think it's some kind of weird fetish, lol.
yea, japan has all these weird fetishes....which is kind of creepy. but yea, it's spawned from some pedophile thingy thingy. not sure though. :P

Technically speaking, it does begin with Nabokov's novel Lolita, about a young girl by the name of Dolores and her stepfather, who raped her when she was 14. But it apparently got desexualized during the decades after this novel is published, until it means nothing more than "a sweet, youthful girl". Though to most, it still have some pedophilic ties to it.
yea, it was made into a movie a really long time ago, right? then they made it again.....and again.

Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the platate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta. She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores at the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita.

Yup, Yuuko's clothing are really based on the EGA/GL fashion, down to her hime-cut hairstyle. CLAMP produces a lot of series (Chobits, Tsubasa, xxxHOLiC, CCS) with lolita-ish clothing, just the that stories are not really lolita-ish in itself.

That's weird. I did wear nearly that exact outfit to orchard once... Except I had knee-high b/w striped socks on that day. And my T-shirt had some designs, I think. But still, hmmm...
Anyways... Yeah. Usually I'd prefer Shirololi or Gothic Lolita... If I was going out with a group of other lolis... It is great fun to do that... Although you somehow enjoy a radius of sorts.

Think bugis got as saw some photos of their customers wearing it being displayed on their shop window. Been to that shop last fri, the yukata designs that are in now not really suitable for gothic style wasou... But must warn~~~ that shop is EX~~~~~ ~_~
EColi: Yup, it's by Kouyu Shurei. Her artwork is honestly one of the best I've ever seen. The second one is Princess Ai by Ai Yazawa and Courtney Love. (lol)
I like the girl's hairstyle but it's dangerous to try it as tye big flowers can easily make one look like hua chi... Still undecided abt wat hairstyle to go with my wasou..... You got any more wig that you wanna sell?^^" I liked the last one you sold me :)

yukutas doesn't seem to difficult to make from what i see from gosurori
i am planning to ge make one myself
i thought victorian maiden has the intesting item
it's just a lace trim that you can stuff into the obi, collars
it guess it will work for a more classic lolita look but maybe black lace will look more gothic....thinking yukko again

The auntie's shop only sells the new, expensive yukatas. For the secondhand, cheaper ones, you will have to go down to her house. Not sure if she moved, but I think you can always ask SK or Masa. They have her number, I think.
According to other cosplayers, Yukatas are really easy to sew. ("It's like origami") Not sure on that though. I personally have no confidence.

Er not to stir up any feelings or what, ^^ but I think wearing such things to Natsu matsuri is inappropriate because it's a traditional festival, and the older Japanese tend not to take too well to VK/cosplay etc, so it's strongly advised not to.

Cheap contacts can be found anywhere. Buying from me is actually like buying from retail, actually. :P Pop down to your local optics and ask, average monthly disposable ones should not exceed that price range, though "unusual" colours is difficult to find. As long as it does not exceed -6.0, the price should be the same. Anything higher, you might need to order.
Once my exams are over, I'll help you ask around, alright? I need to buy the solution anyway.
