Hi all, The poster has been updated, just a slight adjustment to timing and sponser/partners. The event is drawing near, final artwork collection will be in 2 days time. I would like to take this chance to thank everyone who has contributed artworks, its not easy to find time to contribute, let alone to draw new artworks. All your efforts are greatly appreciated. This is the 2nd Kaleidoscope event that is being run. We may not be as big or as organised to the harsh expectations of Singaporean society, but we all want to put together a good exhibition and we have given our best to make a good showcase. So I hope everyone can show their support on Nov 01 - 02 2008, and drop by Funan Digitalife Mall to have a look at the exhibition. Thanks! See you all there. =) Last edited by Co2; 14-10-2008 at 10:19 AM. Reason: typo |

Hi everyone! Many thanks to those who have supported the event, as well as artists who have contributed to Kaleidoscope 08. We have collected an unprecedented number of artworks this year, which meant that the exhibition artworks selection went through a very stringent selection process to ensure that all 100++ artworks on display will set a new standard for digital artworks in Singapore. If you have your doubts on exactly how impressive this will be, please do take the time to come down to prove yourselves wrong. Some may ask why we bother publishing such statements, but as most of us in the organizing committee are artists ourselves, we understand the disappointment of not making the cut, and we would like to address this issue. While we wish that everyone is able to have a chance to show their works, we have to concede that the standard for digital arts in Singapore has come a long way. We have received a huge number of really impressive artworks from many people, schools and studios, even from those who simply take digital art as a hobby and not as a profession. A large variety of styles were also presented to us, ranging form Marvel comics style to impressionism and Manga, giving our smorgasboard of artworks a lot of variety, but also at the same time making our choices all the more harder. Simply put, exhibition space is at a premium, and the choices we had to make were difficult indeed. In the end, the selection team from NUS anime club and CDS, sat down, stared at, voted, and made FINAL decisions on which pieces were of the suitable caliber to be displayed in order to uphold the standard of digital art in Singapore. We hope that all the artists whose works are not chosen to be displayed to understand that they are not being rejected or pushed aside. We will still find a channel to showcase ALL contributed works, probably by hijacking someone's laptop and a nice wide-screen monitor to show the remaining works, and we hope that instead of reacting in a negative or non-constructive manner, every artist can take this chance to have a look and benefit/learn from the more experienced/ talented artists, and be inspired to try and improve themselves, perhaps for the next Kaleidoscope or any future digital art exhibitions. Once again, we thank all who have contributed to the event, and we look forward to seeing everyone on the 1st and 2nd Nov in Funan Digitalife Mall. If you have any friends who are artists, or like digital arts, but are unaware that Singapore has a thriving digital arts community, I humbly ask that you invite them over to have a look at the exhibition. See you all on the 1st weekend of November! Co2 and the Selection team/ NUS anime club Organizers for Kaleidoscope 2008 |
