There's a drawing/character design exercise going on at the AMW(Aspiring Mangaka & Writer's Club)...
25/5/08: edt: it's officially a novel/manga WIP now, this thread shows the character design developments and first chapter draft/preview of the story. Comments welcome. ^^

Okie, decided to do lucian first. Here goes...

Initial character design - Lucian.
Haven't managed to think of costume yet, so... =P

However, author requests for long hair and normal pointy ears. I also tried to make the face less generic.

Here's 2nd try.

i noticed the top most part, his forearm longer than his arm. Should the wrist reach the centerpoint of the shoulder ball joint?

@alien: heh heh, you're right. I was thinking that myself after posting that pic. If the arm were fully curled up, the wrist would approximate the shoulder (I'm trying it on myself now... =) ) but if the arm is not bent all the way then wrist should not be same level as shoulder. Unless showing dramatic perspective or whatever thingy, I guess. ^^

Re: whip - he's supposed to be preferably modelled after sesshomaru ma. So got whip lor. =P

edt: decided to try drawing his dragon self. btw it's a furry dragon, not a scaly one. thot since he has so much hair... =P

Clothing. I'm not good at clothing. Tends to be lazy and outdated. Will work harder. Pls feel free to comment, whether you're from AMW or not. Thanks! ^^

i like the neat one with the necklace...maybe can make it something that Rain gave him?

I think you can include more visual elements onto the boots. Maybe some scales or pikes stickin out from it.

Actually the boots are furry(one line of long fur down the calf behind, like the legs of the dragon), with the same pattern down the side as his weapon. The lines at the toe part(left pic) will turn to his claws in dragon form. ^^

okie, this is my level of toning some time ago... out of practice now, though =P
All done manually lor. Inking etc also. -> oops, wrong. words added by computer.

p.s. Hope you like the story. As usual, critiques very welcome, thanks in advance!
p.s.2. I'll be deleting this tomorrow to save scrolling space on this thread.
