Yeah, humor me once again... Most cosplays may not necessary need make-up, but think of it as a bonus which help enhance certain features or so. But beforehand, I admit I'm no make-up expert so I can't dish out excellent tips here. Therefore, I'm asking the other cosmetic experts to come in and share your professionalism! Heck, even if you are not a pro, but you got something to share, just post! Stuff You Can Discuss/Share In Here: 1. Recommendations of cosmetic brands. Example, XXX Liquid Foundation is good for those with sensitive skin or ABC eyeliner is dark and does not run easily, excellent for Visual Kei Cosplay...(It is best if you state the cosmetic you recommend is good for what kind of skin type eg. Oily, Dry, Dark...) 2. Websites about make-up which you think are good for beginners/intermediate/expert. 3. The big No-No. Telling others what you think are the most horrible mistakes one could do with make-up. Example, using lipliner or lipstick outside the contours of your lips! 4. Enlighten beginners what certain tools are for. Example, differences between foundation and base. 5. Make-up tutorials or tips for specific characters. Example, for Uchiha Sasuke, whether to use eyeliner to highlight the eyes, or powder to appear more paler, or use visual trick to enhance the bridge of your nose or whatsoever! 6. Feel free to ask others questions! So, people, help me out and help others out too! I'll try to contribute too! I will keep a couple of posts after this post for updates. So each time, somebody add in some tips, I will update it at the front page, so people don't need to go through too many pages in search of what they want. Of course, acknowledgement would go to the people who contribute! Big THANKIES to those who contribute. - Pekoruto - DeathstarX - Luel LeBeau*Recommended to read - max - Nazhuka_Mizhuki - wawa - Crucifixation - AngelZhou - slsfavanime*Recommended to read - ayumisc Last edited by Kaishiou; 01-01-2006 at 12:38 AM. |

Make-up Tips Websites: - http://www.lsmakeup.abelgratis.com/tips.htm Tutorials for Specific Characters: - (Mana from Malice Mizer) http://www.mana.germainetsui.net/ Make-up Advice: - Liquid eyeliners need occasional practices, then it would get easier to draw. As said by pekoruto: "practise really makes perfect (or at least improvement)" - For beginners, pencil eyeliner is advised. - Green concealer is good for red spots and pimples. - If you ever powder your face a shade darker or lighter than your skin tone, please remember to do the same to your neck and other exposed areas, so you wouldn't look like you're wearing a mask. - Liquid foundation = good coverage, don't last that long/ Powder foundation = less coverage, last longer - For natural look and also for those still rather young, try not to go too heavy on the eye make-up or lipstick, meaning light colors and minimal mascara. (unless you wish to look old) Recommended Cosmetic Stuff: - KOSE foundation - ZA Two-Way Cake (Oily Skin; For those lazy to do the foundation and loose powder routine; Affordable; Refills available for sale; Pretty Cover) - Maybelline Concealer - LOREAL double-extension waterproof mascara - clinique products like foundation or loose powder (Sensitive Skin) - Chanel foundation - MAC liquid eyeliners (For thin and smudge-free line; Brush-tip; Offers Wild & Unique Colors) - Shiseido liquid eyeliners (For thin and smudge-free line; Brush-tip) - Estee Lauder or "in2it"[drug store brand] liquid eyeliners ( Felt/marker-tip; Not very good for thin lines) - Lancome photogenic foundation (For cosplayers in the limelight! - Red Earth concealer (Available in yellow, green and pink) - Loreal Airwear concealer - Lancome primordiale lip care Extra tips: - Before you buy any cosmetic items, please try out the sample to see if it suit your skin type. And if possible, ask the cosmetic promoter to explain the product to you. - Expensive products may not equal to good. Last edited by Kaishiou; 01-01-2006 at 12:14 AM. |

Hey yo I ain't no expert make up artist here too but practise really makes perfect (or at least improvement). I used to always wonder how ppl are able to draw with liquid eye liners. My first few tries suck so badly but after occasional practices, I realise it gets easier to draw after that. Often, I'll observe some of my collection of fave Japanese cosplay pics, I start to realise one of the reasons why Japanese cosplay seem to stand out, they're really good at applying make-up; especially their eye make-up (since most anime/game characters have big eyes), eye-liner & mascara can really help enhance the way you look. For foundation, I'll recommend KOSE. As for mascara, LOREAL double-extension waterproof really works well for me. And if you want fake eye lashes, can get them at Daiso IMM =DDDD |

I think for those who are too er...lazy...XP to do the foundation and loose powder routine (though actually it is better since it lasts longer), the ZA two way cake is a fantastic thing to have. It is pretty affordable (and you can buy refills after you finish) and the cover is pretty good. However, if you have blemishes that still show after application, you'll need a concealer and I recommend Maybelline. ^^ ZA also has their own concealer but I haven't tried it before...so...yea. ^^

good thread *bump* impt fact ppl dont really realize, blusher is a good idea for both indoors and outdoors, though mostly indoors, because it adds highlights to your cheeks gives your face a rosy, healthy tinge. Make your blusher a tiny bit thicker and brush it across your nose to give that 'cute' anime blushing look. be careful not too put too much blusher though. AND ALWAYS USE A BIG BRUSH. for good application, SMILE and dust on the apples of your cheeks =D use a darker blush just below the cheekbone to create a 'pocket' and a lighter blush on the cheekbone to create more define cheekbones. eyebrows -> ppl pluck them, girls or guys, helps to shape the face. If its your first time, get it done at a shop, there's a place in bugis village that does it for 5 bucks and a few around china town if you want if cheap and pretty good. After that its up to you to up keep it. also, remember to 'color' your eyebrows. Point in case would be inuran's lacus. her lacus has pink hair AND pink eyebrows. so remember, if your anime character has extreme colored hair, try to fix your eyebrows as well. foundation -> if you dont want it messy, use two way cake foundation which is powder AND foundation, saves time and isnt as messy as liquid. concealer -> green is good for red spots and pimples eyeliner -> liquid for nice 'swish' line at the end, beginners learn with soft kohl if you want smoky effect before trying liquid. it isnt easy fake lashe -> stick your lashes on AND DEN line your eyes, to help hide the 'line', remember to blend. powder -> DONT ever try to go beyond three shades darker or lighter than your actual skin tone. Cause most ppl only do their faces and forget about their hands, neck, legs, arms etc and thus looks weird. lipliner -> use it to define your lips and use one that's a tone darker than your lipstick so you can see the hint of definition. lipliner also helps prevent your lipstick from bleeding. lip gloss-> use lip gloss to keep your lipstick from fading too fast, and makes your lips shinier, and wet lipstick -> ALWAYS clean your lips with make up remover before eating and drinking [unless withs straw] cause you can never be too sure about chemical reactions. dat's all i can think of now...and of course ALWAYS WASH, TONE and MOSITURIZE your face before putting on make up. For outdoor shoots try to put on sunblock as well to prevent your cheeks [esp] from burning. |

Oh my...O___O Luel-san, I love you and I hate you. Haha. I love you because your advice are very good and clear. I hate you because I don't know how to rephrase the whole thing! So, I'm going to leave your post as a whole, and recommend others to read from there. Hope you don't mind! And to Pekoruto and DeathstarX, thanks for both of your contributions too! |

haha...now for my 2 pesos worth... somehow, i think if you're rather young (under 13) and you want to have a natural look for your cosplay, don't use too much eyemakeup or lipstick. dark eyemakeup can make you look too old, so keep the colours light, and the mascara minimal. for lipstick, just stain your lips by dabbing the colour on, then apply a top coat of gloss. enjoy your youth! don't try to grow up too fast! clinique has a good range of products for sensitive skin, especially the foundations and loose powders. p.s.: kai! good thread! If you want to draw a thin and smudge-free line, use a liquid eyeliner with a long handle and brush tip, not felt. Felt is easier for beginners to control, but the line won't be as thin or defined as opposed to using one with a brush tip. Brands that I reccommend is MAC and Shiseido. MAC is better for all the wild and unique colours it has to offer. If your purpose is to line a big area, use those eyeliners that instead of being in a shape of a bottle, is a pen instead. It's hard to explain, but it basically looks like your copic marker. -__-;; This is not so good for thin lines, but if you want to line a big area of your upper lid, it may come in use. The only brands that I'm aware of producing this type of eyeliner is Estee Lauder and one drug store brand called "in2it". | |
