Neither can Odex prevent any criminal charges.
Even if you pay Odex their $3,000 or so, there is nothing to stop the government from pressing criminal charges against you. Copyright infringement is a criminal offence in Singapore. Odex can do nothing to interfere with that. In fact, even if they promise not to sue you themselves, there is nothing that legally prevents them from reporting you to the relevant authorities. In fact, it would be illegal for them to make such a promise.

This is quite true in the sense that, whether or not Odex catches you, its still up to the courts to decide. And if you are caught, you dont have to pay Odex for settlement, because u have to pay the fine anyway for copyright infringement. Theres not much to say though, even if Odex does catch you, it does not mean the law is onto you, so even then, you are pretty safe unless proven otherwise.

All i can say is, if u got the love letter from Odex, tear it up, burn it and continue your merry life until the dust settles, they can hardly touch you at the moment where they have no evidence.

As u know, if they feel they have sufficient evidence, they can try filing a suit against you, but it won't guarantee they will win, THAT IS WHY they sent you the letter in the first place, because they are not confident of winning inside court, and they are trying to scare u with a threat so they dont have to shame themselves in front of the law.

If you paid Odex without taking them up on their suit, you're a sucker for giving in without resistance to a fight that you could have possibly won.

So our unconnected elders who have their source of misinformation tend to misjudge the self-informed.
