This may be true to some extent, but usually the paper quality issue happens when the paper is left in the open ,i.e., oxidation. The best way to ensure this doesn't happen is to keep it in an enclosed area (which is where I usually keep them)

Also, it's the paper, not the manga itself, that's of higher quality, and it's also based on context. For me, quality is inculsive of extras and comprehensible English. In the case of imported American manga, it's either the American english, or the fact that their translation isn't adequate. And more often than not, extras like character designs and so on are left out.

An example I like to use is this : "At what level is your relationship with 'so-and-so' ?" . In the CY version, the sentence with "How far have you gone with so-and-so ?" Both mean the same thing, but the second sentence had more impact.

The way I see it, if a Singaporean publisher provides an English manga with better translationa d a cheaper prioce than an import, I'd rather go with an import.

Does anyone forgot about the advantages of legal broadcasts in Singapore?

Mass legal broadcasts in Singapore gets more people in the public to be expose to the world of anime, and helps to get more converts to our hobby. It'll turn anime watching from a niche market to a mass market.

With the advert of mass market, more anime related event and products become available on our shores. Better performers and exclusive items even.

So it's not really a matter of quality. Quality is a matter of personal opinion. Same week telecast do more help in promoting the anime market to the mass audience than fansubs.

after stabbing the fanbase in the back by clamping down on downloading...

i dont see the act of ODEX deserving anything near "thankful"

simply to say, what they did wasnt even enough to atone for their acts
let alone deserving a thank

The anime industry will nevaaarrr be big here! Mainstream thinks that Bleach and Naruto is mature oh noes! The amount of 30+ years old people who watches Bleach and Naruto doesn't help things! We are doomed to having late night slots of Toradora and Clannad After Story!!!!

Which I am totally fine with anyway XD

maybe my expection is a bit higher...

i dont believe in forgive and forget...

the words "forgive" isnt as easy from me as anybody else
to the basics... i dont forgive any person even if that person is dead

i most probably curse SS to be sacked during the economic recession...
ODEX goes into bankrupcy.... and even if the people die... i wish them a straight dive into the deepest hell

when a person stabbed you... but u didnt die...
and the person drop the knife, appear to learnt the mistake...
will you trust the person enough ? or would another knife just come out from his sleeve and
stab you to death the second time ?

This is exactly the reason why fansubs should have never made the hop to HD. By matching industry standards, they provide people more reason to download for free instead of promoting the anime itself.

Then rise the 'quality' inspectors which pretty much nitpick about every single ****ing thing just because their fansubs are better than those from a Certain Magical ODEX.

And also, said 'quality' inspectors only arose when ODEX started giving love letters to the downloaders here.

Back then, people complained that ODEX releases only VCDs and the titles are very backdated. Fair enough, considering how half the world already has begun releasing DVDs (heck, make that 3/4, since even third world countries pirate their shit on DVD.), VCDs really had shit for quality.

Now that they release DVDs and have one-week-lag-telecasts on a channel, people complain that
1) There are no extras!
2) The subs are inaccurate!
3) ODEX backstab me baaaaaaw

Some idiots even say stuff like "Maybe we'll get same week telecasts if Japan won World War II." Well I CAN'T HEAR YOU! I'M TOO BLOODY DEAD AND IT'S SO ****ING COLD SIX FEET UNDER! MAYBE IF SINGAPORE WASN'T CALL SYONAN-TO I WOULD STILL BE ALIVE OR SOMETHING.

I dare you to say anything about Singaporeans having 3rd World mindsets and having the worst manners, because I'll have the pleasure of watching you shoot yourself in your foot.

If Japan wins World War II, i wonder if anime industry will be flourishing .

Anyway, even if we all are thankful to Odex or forgive them for their witchhunt on anime downloaders, we are still watching or downloading animes online. This will never change for now and most probably, in the future.

Odex can screen all the animes or releases Dvds/Vcds for all i care but with a few clicks, i can easily watch them online.
