Still can't compare to Japan, which gets their broadcasts, nowadays sometimes in HD, LEGALLY and for the most part, unbutchered like here in SG. Obviously no subs in Japan, but serious amount of censoring over here in SG is just.... Honestly, I think an Anime or Film is fail the moment it gets censored. Give them time? More like I don't even care if they exist anymore or not.

Well, it's already a rather big improvement that they are broadcasting anime just 1 week behind Japan, which I am pretty much thankful for. But the old geezers at MDA is making our life hard plus the problem of hiring a good translator for the subbing. @Kura After bad experience with bootlegs with those stickers (knn the subber dun even noe how to spell Belldandy), I just import my Clannad DVDs from Japan straight: good quality with extras^^

HD or not depend on the country broadcast means (the input) and your output source (meaning your TV) can receive the HD stuff or not. As for translating its not as easy as it seems, just like you may be good in English and your Chinese sucks or the other way round. Its a bit difficult to have 100% conversion without losing parts of its original message(content). Cause different language means different culture, and the way of the language structure is different. Unless your good in both, or three in this case. Then when you fit the bill for the language part, those type of person normal don't fit the bill for anime lover or any passion to speak off. They normally have better use or prospect for their talent. |

A lot of you don`t really seem to understand how a business operates. A business doesn`t live on goodwill, hard work and fighting spirit like Gurren Lagann, they operate on money. They have to have cashflow. For that to happen, they have to have people buy their products. People here whine that Odex doesn`t carry XX YY title or ZZ title`s subs suck balls, or their encoding is worse than a microwave oven when compared to fansubs. But you have to understand that a fansub has TEAM operating behind it, and those people burn off 12 hour runs or more per person on the team. That means the translator, editor, typesetter, copy check, QC and encoder all run at the same time and burn the midnight oil on that. If there`s up to 10 people on 1 team, that`s like 120 manhours used to create just 1 episode. And that`s only 1 episode and each team only works like once or twice a week on about 2 series? Odex doesn`t have the financial means to put that much manpower behind a single episode, given that they have to carry so many titles into Singapore. They don`t only have to pay for the translation and packaging and sale, they also have to pay for licensing costs, promotion, distribution. It`s simply not fair to compare the two together. One is an outfit run off passion and doesn`t have a bottomline, while the other is a corporate entity that has to have cashflow. If you don`t support their products and stuff, and whine that their quality is crap, their library is puny, where are they to find the cash to improve on their products further? It`s not like their asses can print money and they`re not a really big company to begin with. That they`ve taken steps to do 1 week delay broadcasting on television is already quite a step forward. Even Channel 5 doesn`t have 1 week delay for Heroes or Desperate Housewives. As for subs, censoring and stuff, they don`t only have to contend with lack of fluent subtitlers[Singaporean Chinese are taught English and Mandarin at a young age, but how many of them can actually speak both fluently? How many banana Chinese friends do you know?], they also have to contend with MDA regarding content and phrasing. |

Even with simulcasting, to say Odex hasn't the financial means to compete with fansubbers' doesn't change the fact that they are running a business, and thus are ultimately responsible for the quality of their products. Do you think it's right for a company to sell you a bug-ridden piece of software just because they can't afford to hire enough beta-testers? Or a restaurant serves you a crappy dish just because the owner couldn't pay for enough kitchen helpers? Odex is a business, and businesses have a olbigation towards their customers. How they're going to meet that is, unfortunately, not of interest to the customers. Bottomline is simple. If you don't have the finances to do proper quality control, then maybe it's time to scale back your business for the moment. I've seen my share of companies that compromised on quality to expand their brands more aggressively--only to backfire. The only reason why Odex gets away with it is because they're a monopoly, much like how Microsoft gets away with selling us defective operation systems. And like how most of us hate Microsoft for their arrogance, people have come to despise Odex not just for their lack of quality control, but also their high-handed approach to the fansub community. Fansubs (and open source software, in the case of Microsoft) are the only alternative that keeps Odex on their toes. They are the benchmark for the anime community, and now that Odex can't beat them at their game, they're hoping to literally bash them out of it. For that, they've lost my respect. Just look at the recent article in Life! ("Instant Anime"). What we have here is the first-ever same-time simulcast in Tears to Tiara, and what has Peter Go--and Odex's favourite press, Straits Times, choose to pre-empt by harping back on the "illegal downloading" subject again, ad nauseum. Just remember: Apple's iTunes has grown in popularity and acceptance among Net users. And they got there without having to bring out the hatchet. | |

@colourless wind. I actually think WE SHOULD be. We demand btr products from them but if we continue condeming them or even just say their product suck without taking a look at their newer ones, i honestly feel that in that way they will never be the anime company we want it to be.

Trade rep: 0 (0%) | http://zepy.momotato.com/2009/04/02/...iring-tonight/ Well.... Okto and Odex..... Haruhi Season 2 AND SEASON 1 have aired in Japan but I don't see them here. My dissatisfaction to you all still remains. Same-day telecast, huh. (Yeah, I admit, I'm not that much interested in the current line-up, but thats because I find Haruhi more interesting. And way more marketable since it has mroe fame than others) (Oh, and yeah: you COULD air Season 2 in Singapore instead of Season 1, but I'd doubt that casual viewer will know whats going on in Season 1. For real, yo)

The only thank I will have is for god when he punishes these two incarnations of the devil and wipe them off from the face of this planet for good and torture them in the fiery depth of hell. (Together with those sinful Singaporeans who continue buying their products despite knowing what they have done.) A leopard cannot change it's spots. (I'm referring to those naive Singaporeans too who seriously think the devil can change for the better. They need to get their brains checked.)
