You can't accuse a person a thief for something thats not available AT ALL, but thats really a gray area non? And what Odex did IS extortion. They had no right on local laws to do so. That also applies to Japanese companies trying to come here to sue downloaders, when they had NO RIGHT even in their OWN country to do so. The only reason they tried is because Odex asked them to do so! Lets try them to do this to China which I can tell you has MILLIONS of downloads for Anime DAILY. The only difference is that they don't have a wannabe Odex there. You guys can continue your endless arguments, but nothing is changing. As long as Odex remains the lazy R1 ripping shits (Thats what they do for recent releases like Code Geass) that they are and MDA the conservative overprotective stiffs they have always been, Anime will never come here as a whole. To those that support, by all means, continue buying their garbage, and those who don't support, by all means continue to hate them, but don't make other people follow your views. Stop your blind accusations of each other.

I agree with you that MDA will be the biggest barrier in this whole fissar. However i would hope that with prolonged exposure (and continued), Anime can be viewed as something more provocative and mature, thus lessening the constraints it currently needs to endure. To ColourlessWind: Do continue your solo if you'd wish to fight on. I wish you luck, and i don't fault you for your extremnist look at things. Just, like, talk with more brains will you, if you have one. Ciaoz.

MistaYoH: I understand your position as well as everyone. I am just saying this thread is redundant now as those arguing are going in circles, so everyone who reads my message, please stop already, you have already stated your points.

... The amount of hate generated from the two sides of the camp is tremendous, considering that I, formerly an Odex'ed person here, have been trying to move on with my life. Speaking as a neutral person, I would have to side with Julius_Firefocht, MistaYoh, dodgethis, bj0rN and sentinel011 (they're speaking as the Pantheon of Anime Bloggers in Singapore) in regards to this question. Downloading is the same as piracy. Even DrmChsr0 would agree that every anime fan out there is one bit of a hypocrite. Why would else do we anime fans will still continue to download shows considering the fact that there are avenues for getting them legally: Animax, okto, parallel imports and the like? But I digress. I no longer am interested in the "downloading benefits the anime industry" arguments, as it can be seen that this argument will lead to the invocation of Godwin's Law. It has been tirelessly debated in Anime News Network, Japanator and 1001 other forums, websites and blogs that broached this topic. My main concern, however, is that of the process in which they allegedly target end-users for piracy. I have come to learn that there are innocent people out there - people not interested or are knowledgeable about anime - that have been wrongfully targetted by Odex/Japanese companies. I feel for these people because they were being accused of crimes that they do not commit. (Explain how middle-aged couples can get accused for piracy, considering that they do not have P2P programmes to begin with.) I know that the Pantheon have read more technical articles than I do, and that they have valid counter-arguments to lob against me. It does not mean that I condone piracy. It does not mean that everyone has to support Odex to keep the subculture going. It means that for everyone here that is somewhat involved with this saga, the legal channels have been opened up for you. Stop the Odex hatred; it only makes you look stupid. (Consider how your grandparents felt when realizing that you've been fawning over Japanese stuffs, while they led a miserable life during the Occupation. I for one, feel for their misery, but as a neutral outsider in the divide between the past and the future, I will only state that the times have changed.) My whole conclusion for this: 1. Guys like me, who had been Odex'ed, it's been a lesson learnt bitterly. I learnt that a few people have decided to challenge them to court. It takes courage to fight Odex in court. Of course, whoever can stand last, wins. 2. Those that have moved on: they stand to benefit from the proliferation of anime shows in Singapore. We could've never been this better: before anyone else (even the US), a mainstream media broadcaster managed to secure same-week telecast of anime in their territories. As Paul MacGee said, Quote:
