| Member Equipped With Machine Gun For Posting | ~ [Yukata Lovers] Club ~ Love yukatas? Can’t help not to get one? Want to know how to wear it properly? Join the yukata club! XD We can chit-chat about yukatas ( and Natsumatsuri of course >3 ) post yukata pictures, organize a yukata outing, or perhaps even swap yukatas! =D ( The cheapest way to get a new yukata? XD swap with your friends! ) Where to get yukatas? FIRST HAND *PHYSICAL SHOPS* ~You can see and try one out in real life~ 1. Akihabara Japan Products Location: - The Central, 6 Eu Tong Sen Street, #03-03, Singapore 059817 - Bugis Junction, 200 Victoria Street, #03-25, Singapore 188021 Nearest MRT station: Clarke Quay (NE5) / Bugis (EW12) Price is rather expensive but they have a huge range and you can even order / custom made the getas you want if they are not available at the shop. Also available are yukatas for kids ^^ Related stuff includes kitsuke accessories available as sets or individually, getas, bags etc. Kimonos available too, although much more expensive than a yukata. Service: The ladies who serve the customers are very helpful and friendly. I was shown some photos taken in Japan when I asked for some products. They definitely know their products well. Price range: normal obi from S$40, pre-tied butterfly obi from S$80, getas from S$49.90, tabi socks from S$30. Sets for men tend to be about S$70 whereas ladies’ sets tend to be about S$150 Members' Review: I think they have the largest range of items but the shopkeeper is not very happy when I browse without buying. And their prices and high...but you can get nice items like yukata obi with interesting patterns sold individually. To date I have bought one purple obi ($60, okay price) with windchime pattern and one yukata with goldfish pattern (at $106, it's totally not worth it, IMHO). They have cotton koshihimo for $15 (see Taka's price for shibori koshihimo). 2. BHG ( old name : Seiyu ) Location: - BHG Bugis, 230 Victoria Street, #03-01, Bugis Junction, Singapore 188024 - BHG Choa Chu Kang, 21 Choa Chu Kang Ave 4 #01-02/04 & #02-02/07 Lot 1 Shoppers' Mall, Singapore 689812 - BHG Bishan, 9 Bishan Place, #01-05/#02-03/#03-01, Junction 8 Shopping Centre, Singapore 579837 - BHG Tampines, 2 Tampines Central 5, #01-06, #02-08 & #03-07, Century Square Shopping Centre, Singapore 529509 Nearest MRT station: Bugis (EW12) / Choa Chu Kang (NS4) / Bishan (NS17) / Tampines (EW2) Seasonal, only available during their Japan Sale during August. Other stuff available includes uchiwa, furishiki and men’s jinbei. Range is very limited but the geta is far cheaper than those sold at Akihabara Japan Products. Service: Staff doesn’t really know much about the product hence you need to do your research beforehand. They claimed that they had received special training on how to wear yukata. But I remember asking if they sell any obi and they don’t know what an obi is. Price range: Ladies’ yukata set at S$129. 3. Meidi-Ya and Kinokuniya Liang Court Location: 177 River Valley Road, Singapore 179030 #B1-50 and #03-50 respectively. Nearest MRT station: Clarke Quay (NE5) Kinokuniya Liang court stocks getas whereas Meidi-Ya stocks yukatas for children. Price range: Getas at $47.90 onwards, and children’s yukatas at $47 4. Takashimaya (Talking Hall) Location: B1, Takashimaya, Ngee Ann City, 391 Orchard Road, Singapore 238873 Nearest MRT station: Orchard (NS22) Year round, variety depends on season. Normally not more than 10 sets on display. Related stuff available include geta, obi and shibori-dyed koshihimo. Price range: Bare ladies yukata at S$79, and men’s at around S$49. Ladies’ 3 piece sets at S$159. Members' Review: What I bought from them was a kurotomesode with embroidered cranes on ro fabric (a kind of translucent fabric for summer wear) and shibori koshihimo. Their koshihimo are very nice and will last you a long time. I started buying from them before yukatawarehouse existed. But stopped now cos of cheaper options. Haha. I like them for their staff who are helpful and never give me cold stares every time I hang around there. Being a department store, they will always have some items in stock and their price never varies much nor do they try to cheat you. Downside is they do not have a large range of yukata items, except during summer period. 5. Nagomi Gift Shop Location: The Central, 6 Eu Tong Sen Street, #03-80, Singapore 059817 Nearest MRT station: Clark Quay (NE5) This is a relatively new shop. Fairly large selection. Related stuff available includes getas, bags and yukata kitsuke sets. Price range: Bare ladies’ yukata from S$69 - S$329. Obis also vary around the same price range. Kitsuke set at S$49. Members' Review: Is good for its yukata innner items set. Bought one from there and its more than worth its price. However I find their yukata sets more expensive than the first two shops. Range-wise it is similar to Taka. 6. Patch Magic Location: 1 Scotts Road, #04-30 Shaw Centre, Singapore 228208 Nearest MRT station: Orchard (NS22) This is a pretty neat shop hidden in Shaw Centre. The owner stocks a limited range of yukata and yukata sets, as well as a few getas. You can visit their site at http://www.patchmagicsingapore.com. They have a sister shop selling Japanese art pieces, L’escalier, above Kinokuniya SIMS. Price range: About S$140 for ladies’ set. *ONLINE SHOPS* It is strongly recommended that you approach an online seller if you are looking for first hand item, as such sources need not pay rental fees for a storefront, hence the price is notably cheaper compared to physical shops. 1. Deypherus She orders some girls’ yukatas, obi, butterfly obi, and getas from Japan. Some are already in-stock and you can check out the pictures at her thread. It will be cheaper if you get a set. She also sells second hand yukatas as well; hence it is best to ask before purchasing anything. Service: Nice seller to deal with. Best is to add her at msn and talk to her personally on what you want. She also has some real life pictures taken by her personally for you to check out. You can choose to go to her house at Bedok to view the items. Price range: check out at the thread lah XD Link: CLEARANCE! Yukata, Obi and Geta Instock. 2. YukataWarehouse She imports yukata sets, yukata fukubukuro / lucky packs, getas, obis, pretied obis, etc for both guys and girls. Her value-for-money products are the yukata sets and fukubukuro / lucky packs. Seasonal, as batch orders usually starts from June and end shortly after September. She recently have Mailing List. Members who sign up on the mailing list will get updates and special offer. Service: Another great seller that easy to deal with. Easiest way to contact is by PM and email. She handles enquiries well and definitely knows her products. She even offered me some tips on storing my yukata and such. One of the plus point is Yukata Warehouse usually gives Japanese snacks / sweets as gifts for the customers. Price range: The yukata lucky packs are definitely a steal! You can get a yukata + obi + geta + other stuffs for less than S$100 Link: http://yukatawarehouse.livejournal.com SgCafe Link: http://sgcafe.com/clothes-accessorie...ore-47919.html 2. The Mikan by Qubicfactor Qubicfactor is one of our yukata lover member cum resident takoyaki uncle. He's has a deep interest in yukata and Japanese culture as a whole ( proved by the comprehensive write up he did on his blog that has been significantly contribute to this listing ) The selection range might not be as huge as other online seller, but they're still a steal! Most of his goods are already in Singapore while some are in transit / going to be sent. Personally, I think the advantage of buying from him is he's not only selling during yukata sale season make it possible for people who is urgently looking for yukata in off season. Currently, the yukata are only meant for female. Service: A good seller and very helpful on all the enquiries. He's very easy to deal with. Best way to contact him is through PM if you are an sgcafe member. He's pretty active on forum so all replies will be given pretty fast. On special occasion he will throw in free gift too, like special carrier bag. Price range: A single yukata goes for $49 onwards, traditional obi $25, pre-tied obi $45, yukata+obi+kinchaku+koshihimu $88. Occasionally, there will be auction too. PS. Qubic offer a special discount ( around $5-$10 off the listed price ) for Yukata Lover member! Link:---[The Mikan]--- For more information, please PM Qubicfactor instead =) Yukata Batch Order by Yukino-Chan *not from Japan* She's ordering her yukata from taobao ( China ) so price generally are more affordable for most of us ^^ Link: http://yukin0-chan.livejournal.com/ SECOND HAND Mostly have stains and even tears as they are vintage second hand items. Of course, you may get a good bargain sometimes =D ~ For those with a “budget’ ~ 1. “Yukata Auntie” Doris Nearest MRT station: Jurong East (EW24/NS1) Extremely friendly lady ^^ She don’t really sell yukata anymore though, but sometimes if you are lucky she does occasionally entertain buyers ( more or less only applicable to her old regulars ) Service: Really friendly lady and very approachable. You know that yukatas are her passion when you have a conversation with her. The “shop” is her house so it feels very homely to go there. Price range: S$ 15++ for a yukata + obi ( Koshihimo to tie your yukata is given away for free ) UPDATE : The Yukata Auntie already move overseas~ 2. Haji Lane Shops Nearest MRT station: Bugis (EW12) There are a few shops selling second hand yukatas. I know one of it called “House of Japan” and "Jap Vintage". According to one of the members, you may find steal buys here. However please take not that they do not sell obis so you need to get it from somewhere else. The shops here sell real vintage kimono, which vary greatly in formality from wool hitoe to the all- black-five-crested mofuku. But do note that most of the clothes that end up here have some sort of defects or damage, since they are, after all, vintage. If you intend to buy kimono from this shop, it is suggested that you arm yourself with some basic knowledge of kimono construction, because you will very likely find ripped seams in need of fixing. Check items carefully for stains, in particular, soya sauce. If the item is made out of a washable material, the stains may lighten or come out in the wash, but many of the kimono here are silk, on which soya sauce is effectively permanent. At other times kimono here may have holes. That said, it is almost impossible to find articles here that are in perfect condition. Tip: If you want to learn how to sew kimono or yukata, this is a good place to buy a cheap one to take apart. Price range: S$25- S$65 generally for the things there. 3. Ancient Link Location: Katong Mall, #02-19 Nearest MRT station: No MRT station around >,< I took bus 16 from Bedok and Stormywish took bus 15 from Tampines This is a relatively small and undiscovered shop but their vintage kimono range is exquisite. It's a MUST VISIT if you are into vintage stuffs. You can find the haori (mostly black), furisode, tomesode, kimono obi and furisode for kids (more like decoration piece~) All of the stuffs are vintage. Most of the design are more matured and tone down, a lot of the pieces are in black. Service: We were served by Ian, the owner. He's a very nice guy in mid 20's (he said on weekday usually his mum would be the one who take care of the shop) Ian is very patient (with us messing around his shop lol) and resourceful. He know exactly what techniques are used on the pieces and which era the kimono came from. He even show me some of his books about kimono and relate it to the piece I like. When I tried the kimono on, he would help me find matching obi to go with it. Price range: The normal ladies kimono around 80 bucks, those with pattern around 150 bucks, furisode above 200 bucks and the wedding kimono around 300 bucks. Obi for kimono around 80 bucks and above. PS. Can ask for discount, just said that you are Angel's friend (and if he can't remember me, just said Angel who is Doris' friend) Members' Review: Went yesterday with my friend who lives around that area. Because I have no idea how to get there on my own. Not a big shop, but like what Angel said, the owner is very helpful and passionate about kimono. He will be even more helpful if he sees that his customers are passionate too. Most of his items are expensive and what I call collector's range. Haha, I wouldn't dare wear his stuff...I'm more into modern and wearer-friendly. But my friend who likes old pre-WWII things bought a kurotomesode, which he went out to get from his storage area.
