Aug 12th, 09 01:17 AM #10021 Drabbles. Maybe if I compiled a few of them, I could send them off for the anthology. >__>
After I polish them with the cool shoeshine, of course. 077. Illusion
It is a legerdemain, a thaumaturgy, a conjuring trick, a cheat - an illusion.
Because looking at you was like I was seeing him all over again. As if he had never truly disappeared – the bed still warm, air still polluted with cigarette smoke and instant coffee, his voice still echoing in my ears.
If I look at you from afar, I could pretend that he was never gone.
The same wolfish grin, with eyes crinkling in barely-there crowfeet.
The same hulkish build, with the beginnings of a potbelly.
The same predilection for cargo pants and polo tees.
The same exuberant hand motions.
The same choking guffaws.
And all the little things I love about him.
But the spell is broken when I’m too close. The reflection disperses like the undulation of ripples at the touch of a finger.
Because when you look at me in the eyes, there is none of the familiar warmness, none of the gentle affection I’ve come to expect. Because even if you were clones of each other, inseparable brothers from birth, you are you and he is he.
Because I fully know that this is an illusion.
---------------------------------------------- 056. Brackish
She was of mixed-blood descent, but not particularly pretty. Coalfish eyes instead of doe’s, pug nose instead of a button, sausage lips and all bony acute-angles. She wasn’t particularly ugly either – sunkissed olive skin and a perfect row of milk teeth.
The only way I could describe her with only one adjective was ‘brackish’. Like mountain spring meets salty ocean at the mouth of the river. Or like a curious blend of milk tea and grounded coffee beans.
She was never praised for her looks, nor her grades, nor anything for that matter. But whenever she was in a crowd, you could easily pinpoint her as if she was the Dog Star in the constellation. With her cornrowed hair and impish, barefaced personality, it was as if she was a blackhole for attention.
And though she always laughed it off (in that infuriatingly chawbacon way of hers), you could say that I fell in love at first sight. -

LOLKAY sorry orz-- but thanks (: i'm new on sgcafe and AMWC, and so far got only devart to post my works D; chisuukei@devart i do wanna open a blogspot/wordpress artblog one day, but after my As prolly :')
Nice to meet you too!
This is quite bad lei...why are people not submitting when they sound so excited initially? It's quite a disappointment especially for people who are organising this. So seriously people, what will it take to have you guys submit on time? What is a reasonable time frame for you guys to work on your short manga?
D; sorry really! but as cooki3 had mentioned, comics take muchmuccchhhh longer to complete than writing-- especially if we havent finalised our storyboarding for a chapter or the whole story. i'm sure not that we are aiming for 4-8 pages a submissions; generally 18-32 is a norm for chapters of a short story or oneshot, so i hope you can bear with us DD;
on another note, maybe have a system of 'checking' on our progress (which on our side wud be a betch, but its for the sake of PROGRESS). i'll take it that the anthology is pubbed by the year, so..
January: start of year-- confirmation of list of submittors (writers/mangaka)
March: 1st check-- posting of WIPs
June: 2nd check-- posting of WIPS, proofreading etc
September: check to see if submittors are alive(being exam period for students)
November: 3rd check-- are they able to complete their work by december? Update list of submittors, etc.
December: Submissions and editing. Publish last week of the year.
just a rough idea for my 'ideal' submission schedule. this follows the school holiday months so people got time to do last minute work to show, at least uhuhu. but its your choice really (:

i'm not too familiar with AMWC and all- but i notice there's a lack of 'notice' or 'standard order' for submissions.. maybe half of us just aren't aware unless we ask? the website should have a sticky or new tab for the guidelines to submitting for our reference, i suppose ..

I did send out notices to everyone via email. And those in charge of the anthology did paste the details time after time to remind everyone. Hmm...I'll sticky it on the first post coz people may just miss it.
And I'll add a tab for the benefit of those who visit the amwc blog ba...

Alright peeps, I've tidied up the instructions so the anthology people, pls take a look and let me know if you want any details changed. Thanks.
The rest of you pls try your best to submit by the end of Nov. I've tentatively extended the deadline (subject to agreement by the ones who're in charge of the anthology) so please please do try to submit by then. <<ANTHOLOGY SUBMISSION>>
For the benefit of those who don't visit the thread regularly and have little info on the submission details for our 2nd anthology, here are the nitty-gritties you need to know:
The anthology is a group effort by everyone (preferably) in the AMWC. We aim to bring together the various talents in the group to consolidate in a nicely printed book that we can sell at events such as Cosfest. Printing costs will of course be shared by everyone who contributes.
We welcome all aspiring writers, mangaka, illustrators to participate. There is no age limit, and you can submit fiction/manga shorts of any genre except for those that has hentai/ecchi/yaoi/yuri overtones or too violent scenes that need to be censored. The keyword is " worksafe". In short, we're looking for WRITERS, MANGAKA AND ILLUSTRATORS. Guidelines for Writers: - Word limit is 600 words
- Save in doc or rtf format
- Submit to Zich at zt84[at]live.com.sg
- Deadline: 30 November 2009
Guidelines for Mangaka: - No limit to number of pages
- Safe frame: 15 x 22 cm
- Finish frame: 18.20 x 25.70 cm
- Gutters are self measurement
- All panels will flow from right to left.
- Save in jpeg format
- Refer to this for frame specs.
- Submit to deliri at jac.fong[at]gmail.com
- Deadline: 30 November 2009
IF however you have no time to do a manga, we welcome you to join us as illustrators. We intend to illustrate each story in the book so each story will have a picture on the facing page. If you’re interested, simply add your name to the list and the respective editors will get in touch with you. =3
You’ll be assigned a writer who has already submitted a story so you’ll need to discuss what kind of illustration you both would like to have. Guidelines for Illustrators: - Add your name to the list and the respective editors will get in touch with you.
- Work with your assigned writer to come up with a suitable illustration
- Check with your respective editors for your deadline.
That’s all and thanks in advance! If you have any questions, just post a comment here or on the AMWC thread. =) Story Editor: Deliri
Manga Editor: Jenocide -
