Whether or not he's overrated he's still the most popular FF character in Japan... and I suspect worldwide. He's also one of the most popular video game characters ever (I think he's no. 2; no. 1 is Mario if I remember right) ^^

2nd most popular FF character in Japan is Sephy, 3rd is Zack!

UPDATES:

Famitsu releases new scans of Bartz & Exdeath with more new screenshots, Summons is confirmed, an 'Other Costume' section features Squall's SeeD costume along with an '
Ex - Mode' section, which features Ultimecia's Griever form and finally, the first in game appearance of the Goddess of Harmony, Cosmos.(which shows her human form)

Bartz has the 'Mime' ability which allows him to copies and mimics other characters' weapons and attacks, like Onion Knight's Flare, Squall's Gunblade and Cloud's Buster Sword, as seen on those pics. He doesn't have to be facing the specific character he mimics

Exdeath's Ex Mode is his original monstrous tree form, in which Bartz and his companions fought before they face Neo-Exdeath in FF V.

Also, it is said that a total of 50 Summons will be included in the game, they are equipped prior to fighting and are represented by red orbs over the player's health bar. This are the confirmed summons so far:

Bahamut
Brothers
Cactuar
Carbuncle
Choco/Mog
Diabolos
Exodus
Gilgamesh
Ifrit
Knights of the Round
Maduin (Terra's Dad?)
Syldra
Tonberry
Typhoon (Confirmed during the TGS 2008 Trailer, in which Terra is seen summoning it)

Another interesting thing to highlight, it is said that Dissidia will also be released through the Japan PSN Store as a download, meaning that you can download the game once it is released on Dec 18, if you didn't prefer to buy the UMD one.
