Sanrio had been ordered by Amsterdam court to stop making and selling Kathy related merchandise in 3 European countries. The court ruled the Japanese rabbit to be too similar to Dick Bruna’s Miffy, a Dutch rabbit.

The court order applies to Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. Failure of complying will require Sanrio to pay 25,000 euros (about US$35,000) a day to Mercis, the Dutch company that manages Bruna’s copyrights.

Won’t it be nice if they hold hands and be friends ?
