The first Anime Festival Asia 2011 sneak preview ended yesterday in AKB48 cafe. Shawn Chin and Haru Miyano, festival directors of the event from Sozo and Dentsu respectively unveiled some of the confirmed highlights of the upcoming AFA 11.

In the sneak preview, it is confirmed that AFA 2011 will be getting a AKB48 experience zone, while details are scarce at the moment, this is definitely a joy of the current pool of AKB48 fans in the region.

Shawn has also shared about the debut of SEA*A, a group of girls who came from Moe Moe Kyun maid cafe back in AFA. The group made their debut in Japan with their new single, it is probable that they might be making some special appearance in the event proper.

Organisers are also confirming that Malaysia and Indonesia will be getting their respective Anime Festival events in 2012 while the flagship event “AFA” will still be scheduled to continue in Singapore annually.

This year, visitors can expect a larger floor space as compared to last year’s event with popular experience zones such as Maid and Butler cafe, live dubbing from seiyuus and Akiba town who will be bringing the top toy and merchandises down. Bandai and Bushiroad are two of the confirmed partners in this event. There will also be a same day screening as Japan of Gundam Unicorn Episode 4.

Regional Cosplay Competition (RCC)

AFA 11 will be hosting RCC again this year and on a bigger scale. Anticipate great cosplayers from around the region to compete on the stage of AFA 2011. Call for entries will begin from this weekend to September 2011 Local auditions will also held in participating countries (indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Phillipines).

Guests and Artistes

Danny Choo returns as celebrity emcee, and filming of season 2 of Culture Japan, as well as showcase of exclusive Mirai merchandise. I love Anisong returns with a new theme this year “Rock your soul”  Four of the artistes have been confirmed to appear in AFA 2011, two of them are returning guests and also Anisong’s ambassador in AFA.

FLOW is a rock band made up of Kohshi (vocals/guitar), Keigo (vocals), Takashi (guitar), Hiroshi (drum) and Yasutaro (Bass). The band began back in 1998 and made their debut in 2001. You might have heard of their songs in the opening theme for Code Geass first season or even “RE:member” from Naruto. Other notable anime series include Eureka 7, Personal Trinity soul and more.

Angel Beat fans will remember LiSA for her singing voice behind Yui, the second singer of the fictional band “Girls Dead Monster”. Many of their singles created much awareness in the Oricon charts.

Cool Japan Forum

Cool Japan Forum returns on November 11 to showcase Japan’s leaders in various media industries. One of the speakers “Keiichiro Hirano”, a renowned novelist will be coming down to share his experience.

On a sidetrack, Miyano-san talks about World Runway Fashionquake Aid 2011, confirmed for Singapore Indoor Stadium on September 17.

Anime Festival Asia 2011 will be held in Suntec Convention Hall 402-404 from November 11 to 13.
