Late last month, as part of the promotional materials for their upcoming single, “Spring of Life”, Perfume released a graphic motion data file containing a minute-long dance routine performed and motion-captured from the trio – the same data used for the 3D animation that you see when you visit their official website.

The team behind this project – Perfume global site project #001 – encourages fans to be creative: You’re allowed to use the data however you like, just as long as you link back to the project site. Naturally, most of the hobbyist 3D animators out there took this to mean “let’s feed the data into Miku Miku Dance (MMD), apply some skins to the dance data, and throw something quick together.” Like the very last video featured in Engadget Japan’s article here.

And while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, a small subset of these hobbyists decided to go the extra mile, playing around with backgrounds, and camera and lighting effects – or just a really funny concept (oh, you’ll see).

Here’s a look at some of them.
