While PC gamers rejoiced when Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, a PC port of the critically-acclaimed action title for PS3 and Xbox 360 with additional content, was announced, fans who had already bought the game on consoles dismayed. “Does this mean I have to buy another version of the game just to play new stuff that’s added,” they asked in an Oliver Twist-like manner I imagine.
It’s taken a while for the slave masters at Namco Bandai to respond, but today they finally did. And respond like a king they did: “No, you won’t have to buy another game. But yes, my humble subjects, yes you shall have some more!” The additional content in the PC version – more areas, bosses, standard enemies, NPCs, armour and weapons – will be released as an Artorias of the Abyss DLC, to be sold on PlayStation Network for US$14.99 and on Xbox Live for 1200 MS points.
In addition, Namco Bandai has also announced that the PC version will also be sold through Steam. Previously it was Games for Windows only, which prompted a petition with over 90,000 signatures.
Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition comes out for the PC through Steam and Games for Windows on August 24. The Artorias of the Abyss DLC will be available to PS3 and Xbox 360 owners later this year in Winter.
