Shiny Festa and the three new episodes of Idolmaster anime it would come bundled with was not all that was unveiled today at the Idolmaster 7th Anniversary live concert (Day 2).

Yozo Sakagami, the overall producer in charge of the entire Idolmaster series, also went on stage to announce a slew of Idolmaster-related comics, to be serialised in various manga magazines.

Idolmaster Cinderella Girls

First up: stories revolving around characters from Mobage’s Idolmaster Cinderella Girls social game will be serialised in four Square Enix comics publications: Gangan Online, Young Gangan, Big Gangan, and Gangan Joker. The first chapter will be published in Gangan Online on August 2.

*Note: although this was not actually announced at the Idolmaster 7th Anniversary concert, according to an image (above) we found, the Cinderella Girls character stories will also be collected and published into three separate comic anthologies – each focusing on idols belonging to a particular genre (Cute, Cool, and Passion) from the game.

Jupiter

Next, Sakagami announced that 765Pro’s rivals, 961Pro’s three-piece boy-band group Jupiter, would also receive its own manga series. This will be serialised in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume, The Hana to Yume, and Hana to Yume Online publications, beginning Autumn 2012.

Idolmaster anime

Finally, Sakagami revealed that the Idolmaster anime series would also be “comicalized” and published in Ichijinsha’s Comic REX.

Manga artist “Mana” (if you know who that is, please let us know via the comments) will illustrate, while the story scenarios will be written by Tatsuya Takahashi who was also in charge of the script for the anime series.

These announcements elicited a roaring response from the audience, Famitsu reported. Fans were taken by surprise since none of it was even hinted at on the first day of the concert at all.

But Sakagami knew. Sakagami had expected that the Idolmaster manga announcements would make waves.

Yet, the Idolmaster overall series producer, too, was taken aback.

“I never would have thought that the Jupiter announcement would be the one to receive the loudest response (laughs),” he said.
