AKB48 General Manager Minami Takahashi’s solo debut single to serve as OP theme for Fuji TV JDrama ‘Saki’
Back in August at AKB48‘s “1830m no Yume” concert in Tokyo Dome, it was announced that General Manager and Team A performer Minami Takahashi would be making her debut as a solo singer come Spring 2013.
Although the title of her debut single has not yet been determined, what has been decided is that the single will be used as the opening theme for Fuji TV’s January 2013 JDrama Saki, a sequel to 2011’s Utsukushii Rinjin starring Yukie Nakama.
“Becoming a solo singer has always been a goal for me, and I’m glad it’s finally time for that dream to be granted. I’m especially honoured that my song will be used in a TV drama starring Yukie Nakama-san, a senpai from the same talent agency that I’m from, whom I have the utmost respect for,” Takahashi said of the announcement, according to MyNavi News.
In Saki, Yukie Nakama will reprise her role as Utsukushii Rinjin‘s Meyer Saki, whose alluring looks and mannerisms have led her to being called an “ideal woman” by men – which she then uses to her advantage in ruining the lives of numerous men.
Although recording for the show’s opening theme has not yet begun, Minami Takahashi expressed her anxiety in recording without being surrounded by the other members of AKB48.
“But I will do my best to sing in hopes that the feelings and thoughts expressed in the song can be conveyed to the listener,” she said.
Commenting on her solo debut, AKB48 producer Yasushi Akimoto had a few words of encouragement to cheer Takahashi on.
“‘Hard work, will definitely reap rewards’ – that’s what you’ve always said to the other members to encourage them, as you led AKB48’s charge.
“Now, it has come time for the General Manager herself to prove those words in action. So come on now, Takamina, [show everyone what you’ve got, as] we’re ready with the preparations for your solo debut!”
Fuji TV’s JDrama Saki begins airing in Japan January 8, 2013, at 10PM on Tuesday nights.
