If you’re looking for the next step in virtual reality gaming, look no further than the Omni, Virtuix’s omni-directional treadmill.

The Omni allows you to walk around virtual worlds without wandering about your living room and bumping into walls. With a fixture holding your waist in place, you don’t have to worry about falling, either.

As a demo, here is a video of one of the developers using a prototype of the Omni along with a headset and the Kinect to play The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Granted, it would get tiring walking around Tamriel for hours and hours (or twenty minutes, for some people), but the Omni can be used for more than just games. It can be used for exercise, job training, virtual movies, virtual concerts, virtual museums, or any other virtual simulation you can think of.

Are you interested in using virtual reality in your own living room? Then you can visit Virtuix’s homepage or wait for their Kickstarter page, where you will be able to pledge money to help fund their development. With a bit of luck, this compact machine will make its way into your local shopping center at an affordable price.
