What happens when Dengeki Bunko, one of the largest light novel publishers in Japan, teams up with Sega and the original character designer of Hatsune Miku?
As part of Dengeki Bunko’s 20th anniversary celebration, they are joining forces with Sega and Vocaloid designer KEI to create the novel “Sega Hard Girls Story”. The novel features several goddesses themed around Sega’s past game systems, as seen below (left to right): the Dreamcast, Saturn, Mega Drive, Game Gear, and Master System.
In the novel, these goddesses will live ordinary lives in modern Japan and share characteristics with their respective hardware, so longtime fans of Sega’s systems will be able to find a lot of inside jokes.
The story will be written by Tooru Shiwasu, the author of Boku to Kanojo no Game Sensou, and include illustrations and character designs by KEI. Sega Hard Girls Story, which will be published in Dengeki Bunko Magazine starting on June 10, is the first part of the “Dengeki Bunko vs. Sega” project.
As the second part of the project, Sega game centers across Japan will have illustrations of Kirino and Kuroneko from OreImo dressed in Sega costumes to promote Dengeki’s anniversary and cheer on gamers.
Dengeki has a lot more plans they haven’t revealed yet. Just recently, they announced their grand exhibition opening this month. To celebrate twenty years of producing quality novels, what will they do next?
