gundam artbook

An artbook featuring Yoshikazu Yasuhiko’s Mobile Suit Gundam production artworks has been released. The book which is titled Yoshikazu Yasuhiko Animation Gengashu Kidou Senshi Gundam (安彦良和アニメーション原画集『機動戦士ガンダム』) or Yoshikazu Yasuhiko Drawings for Animation from Mobile Suit GUNDAM the movies & the original TV series went on sale today.

Edited by director Hideki Anno of Neon Genesis Evangelion and Ryuusuke Hikawa an anime critic, the book consists of a selection of production artworks selected from over a thousand pieces of work that Yasuhiko created during the production of Mobile Suit Gundam’s television anime series as well as the three movie adaptations. The book also features essays related to the production and pictures of production studio.

An exhibition featuring Yasuhiko’s works is also scheduled to be held at Gundam Front Tokyo (ガンダムフロント東京) in Odaiba. The exhibition titled Birth of Mobile Suit Gundam and Animator Yoshikazu Yasuhiko Exhibition (機動戦士ガンダムの誕生とアニメーター安彦良和展) will be held from June 7 until July 31. Talks are also scheduled for July 12 and 26.

Yoshikazu Yasuhiko is a Japanese animator and manga artist. He was the director and character designer for Mobile Suit Gundam and worked as the character designer for Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam F91. He was also the writer and illustrator for Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin, a manga adaptation of Mobile Suit Gundam.
