final fantasy xiii-2 digital contents selectionSquare Enix announced today that two new discounted editions of last year’s hit PS3 and X360 RPG Final Fantasy XIII-2 for the Japanese market. An FFXIII-2 “Digital Contents Selection” edition, priced at 5,040 yen, will come with the bulk of the game’s DLC.

But if you just want the game sans all that DLC, a cheaper “Ultimate Hits FFXIII-2” edition is also available. Priced at 2,940 yen. Gamers who just want to see XIII-2’s story through the game might find this version a better value, as the only DLC content you absolutely need, really, is the Lightning’s Story part, which brings the game’s cliffhanger ending to a partial closure, and ties into the forthcoming Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.

Both priced-down editions will be available in Japan beginning July 18. Currently there’s no word if either edition would be made available outside of Japan.

Here’s which pieces of DLC you’ll get as part of the Digital Contents Selection. Basically you’re pretty much getting all the DLC, minus anything that came as a result of a collaboration (so for instance, the N7 armour based on Mass Effect is off the tables).
