shonen jump manga competitionAspiring manga authors from around the world finally have the chance to be recognised by Japan’s major manga publisher, Shueisha.

In celebration of Weekly Shonen Jump’s 45th anniversary, the magazine has officially launched the “Shonen Jump Manga Competition”. The contest is open to the international community with entries accepted in three different languages: Chinese, English and Japanese.

The shonen magazine is already taking applications via their special contest page. Artists are to submit their original and unpublished shonen manga pieces by October 1.

Here’s how the selection goes: Finalists will be picked by the editorial department of Weekly Shonen Jump and the editors-in-chief from the North American Weekly Shonen Jump, China’s OK! Comic (to be launched) and Taiwan’s FORMOSA YOUTH. The final entries will be translated into the three languages and will be posted on shonenjump.com for the online popularity poll.

A total of four awards will be given away:

  • Grand Prize for the most popular manga
  • Top Prize for the most popular entry in Japanese
  • Top Prize for the most popular entry in English
  • Top Prize for the most popular entry in Chinese

Each winner will receive a 500,00 JPY (6238.00 SGD) cash prize. The winning works will be published on the manga magazines previously mentioned.
