Last year, the first Anime Festival Asia Indonesia brought over forty-thousand people together to celebrate their mutual love of Japanese pop culture. If that was result of only the first run, then the success for the second AFA ID can only be imagined. This year, AFA ID is bringing the cultural hot spot Akihabara straight to Jakarta with premium merchandise, cosplay, maid/butler cafes, and everything else an otaku could ask for. Still, I think the greatest anticipation lies in the Anisong artists that will perform, some for the first time ever in Indonesia.

Aya Hirano will perform in Indonesia for the first time. This is great news for those in Indonesia, since Aya Hirano is a talented voice actress and singer. She voiced the main character in Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu, and has landed roles in Death Note, Lucky Star, and Fairy Tale, to name a few. Aya Hirano is also a talented stage actress, playing Eponine in the Japanese version of “Les Miserables”.

Eir Aoi has made quite the impact for a newcomer. Her first break came when she was chosen to sing “MEMORIA”, the ending song to Fate/Zero. Eir Aoi’s first single, “Prayer” also appeared in Fate/Zero, and her second single “AURORA” is the opening to Gundam Age. Her latest song “INNOCENCE” is the opening for Sword Art Online. She’s definitely worth keeping an eye on, as her career is just beginning!May’n’s first solo live concert at Nippon Budokan in 2010 sold out on the first day: that should give you an idea of the kind of talent May’n has. Some of her work includes “Chase the World”, which was the opening for Accel World, and Sheryl Nome in Macross Frontier. With successful tour after successful tour, May’n is a J-pop diva you don’t want to miss.

Babymetal‘s music is an intense as the girls are cute. Originally a YouTube phenomenon, Babymetal is swiftly gaining popularity all over the globe. Every single one of their live concerts have sold out, and their very first single “I.D.Z. Ijime, Dame, Zettai” ranked fifth on the Oricon daily charts. Come to ADA ID to adore these adorable girls!

After revamping in 2009, FripSide has released a string of hit singles. “Only my Railgun” and “LEVEL5 – judgelight-” were both theme songs for To Aru Kagaku no Railgun. Most recently, they performed the opening for To Aru Kagaku no Railgun, “sister’s noise”, which, like everything else they do, hit the top of Oricon’s Weekly rankings.

Produced by Yuki Kajiura, Kalafina debuted with a bang when “oblivious” became the theme song for the movie Kara no Kyokai. You probably know Kalafina from their incredibly popular song “Magia”, which was the ending theme for the Puella Magi Madoka Magica. This will be their first time performing in Indonesia, so don’t miss it!

AFA ID will take place September 6th-8th at the Jakarta Convention Center.
