With all the concern surrounding the rising costs of video games (online gaming fees, console prices, used game penalties, the list goes on), the word “free” just melts a gamer’s heart.Call me cheap or stingy or whatever, but in GameSpot’s twenty-five minute video E3 preview, this stuck out to me like a ray of light in a dark room:
Apparently, Tekken Revolution will be free to play exclusively for the PlayStation 3. If you’ve never tried Tekken, you might want to get in on the action June 11. And I mean literally get in on the action – this game looks intense!
For those of you who have been Tekken fans for a while, maybe even since the beginning in 1994, this is wonderful news. Tekken (literally “Iron Fist”) is one of Namco’s most successful franchises, and even has its own (free) museum in Osaka.
Don’t take my word for it. This is what Complex magazine had to say about Tekken last year when it rated the game number 11 out of the top 50 video game franchises:
Just when we thought that the Street Fighter franchise was going to be the epitome of fighting games, Tekken came to make it share its portion of the knuckle-busting pie. Tekken has cult-like fans who live and breathe the moves and storylines. Just watch any tournament with the game and you’ll see players from all over the world fight as if their own family names were at stake. With seemingly endless combos and insane moves, the fighter is a classic that continues to satisfy fans’ bloodlust.
So even if you are one of those hard-core gamers who will bemoan your wallet once the new generation consoles come out, the least you owe yourself is to sit back, relax, and play some Tekken Revolution for free.
