‘Tis a sad day for fans of South-east Asia-based Anisong idol group Sea*A.
The four-member unit, who made their debut in August 2011 after getting scouted by anisong artiste May’n’s manager while the girls were working at the Moe Moe Kyun Maid Cafe at Anime Festival Asia 2010, announced today on their official website and Facebook page that they have officially disbanded, effective immediately.
The announcement comes just one month shy of the group’s two-year anniversary.
In a heartfelt message addressed to fans, Sea*A member and host and co-producer of AFA Channel’s Wow Japan online video series explained that the decision to disband was one that was made collectively, as all four members would like to move on to different things in each of their lives.
“On behalf of the other girls, I sincerely apologize for our sudden decision. It has been a life changing two years with everyone and we will remember all of TEAM Sea*A dearly in our hearts. We will never forget all the memories we had together. We also want to thank the people that have supported us through and through, not only our fans but also the staff that worked hard and supported us in these 2 years for our activities as Sea*A,” Valerie wrote.
In her message Valerie also said that although Sea*A has disbanded, she will continue to pursue her musical career as a solo artiste. An announcement with regards to her solo career is expected to be made in the near future; in the meantime, fans can register to be the first to know by going over to https://www.facebook.com/asianpopcollective and liking the newly created “Asian Pop Collective” Facebook page.
Here at SGCafe we wish Valerie, Beryl, Wynnie, and Estelle all the best in their future endeavours.
