In this video, the man in charge of Pokemon talks about how he went on a trip to France to design the world of X and Y. Of course, he also reveals a new Pokemon.
If you’ve been following news on the two newest instalments of the Pokemon franchise, you know that the location of Pokemon X and Y, the Kalos region, is inspired by France (read more about Pokemon here on SGCafe).
In a video from Game Freak Director Junichi Masuda, he says that he wanted to theme Kalos around beauty, and he instantly thought of France (the video was revealed at Japan Expo in Paris, so of course, he wanted to flatter them). Before working on X and Y, he travelled to France twice by himself. Along with Paris, he visited other famous cities such as Avignon, Arles, and Marseilles.
In the 5-minute video, you can look at pictures of both France and Kalos, so you can see the connections. Masuda speaks in French in the beginning, but the rest of the video has English subtitles, so don’t be too startled.
In the video, Masuda also reveals a new Pokemon, Honedge (Hitotsuki in Japanese).
Honedge is a steel- and ghost-type Pokemon born from a sword possessed by a departed spirit. It looks like an ordinary sword, but if you try to hold it, it might wrap its blue cloth around you and drain energy from your body. As you may have guessed, Honedge can use the technique Sword Dance.
In addition to the message from Masuda, Game Freak also revealed a trailer featuring a lot of Pokemon, characters, and features that have already been revealed. You may have read about these already, but in this 3-minute trailer, you get to see them in motion.
Pokemon X and Y will be released worldwide on October 12 for the Nintendo 3DS. Are you ready for the biggest Pokemon games yet?
