The Tokyo Anime Award Festival‘s ‘Anime of the Year’ has been been considered by many as one of the biggest prizes any anime series or movie can ever receive and its seven nominees have finally been announced and they are:
Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo (Evangelion Q)
The Wind Rises
AnoHana the Movie
Gintama: The Movie: The Final Chapter: Be Forever Yorozuya
Madoka Magica: The Rebellion Story
Attack on Titan
Academy Award-nominated The Wind Rises may have had its Oscar hopes crushed just like Leonardo DiCaprio but legendary anime director Hayao Miyazaki’s last Studio Ghibli movie will be aiming to bounce back from its defeat at the hands of Frozen with this prestigious new nomination.
Madoka Magica’s third movie meanwhile swept through the Japanese box office and had a sold-out Hollywood premiere so the popular Magical Girl movie will be coming out as a very strong contender.
Speaking of strong contenders, Attack on Titan has certainly come out of nowhere since it premiered last Spring 2013. It has started out as a dark horse but is now one gigantic anime sensation. It would certainly be hard to stop this series from winning Anime of the Year with its engaging story, unforgettable characters and strong momentum.
Tear-jerking anime movie AnoHana and laugh-out-loud action comedy Gintama are also strong contenders along with Evangelion and the very surprising Space brothers which round out the seven nominees.
The winner of the Anime of the Year will be announced on March 22, 2014 at the Tokyo Big Sight. Special screenings for the anime movies, AnoHana, Gintama, madoka Magica, The Wind Rises and Evangelion Q will also be held at the Toho Cinemas Nihonbashi.
The awards festival also has a fan award which lets fans decide which anime will win. You can check out the twenty final nominees for the fan award through this link.
