As the summer anime season is winding down to its last episodes, anime fans are already preparing for the seasonal change this October with an anime line-up which boasts to be this year’s most packed season with heavyweights such as Fate/ Stay Night and not one, but two Gundam series.
We take a look at seven new anime which people should look out for next season which will start in less than two weeks. These new anime are not spin-offs, new seasons, sequels, prequels of any kind and are a completely new series which fans will get to know starting October.
After an entire week’s worth of deliberations, debates, and arguments, here are SGCafe’s picks for 7 new Autumn 2014 anime to watch out for next season:
The Seven Deadly Sins
Also known as Nanatsu no Taizai, The Seven Deadly sins is coming into October as one of the clear favorites as its manga has been regarded as one of the most popular mangas yet to have an anime adaptation. Written by Nakaba Suzuki, the series follows the Knights of Britannia who were wrongfully accused of plotting to overthrow the Liones Kingdom. After their supposed defeat, they were banished, however, the third princess, Elizabeth believes otherwise and sets out on a journey to find them. It should not be confused with Hobby Japan’s line of cast-off scale figures.
Considered by many as the next Attack on Titan, this SciFi series has boasted many accolades even before an anime adaptation was even announced. It has topped the weekly Oricon charts on more than one occasion, beating out heavyweights like One Piece and Naruto and it has even topped 2013’s Konno Manga Ga Sugoi rankings. This new anime adaptation will be cementing the series’ claim as one of the best Science Fiction mangas out there and hopefully will be as widely received as the series it is most compared to, Attack on Titan. The series is set in the near future where and is about humanity’s struggle against giant mutated cockroaches.
Parasyte is not for the weak of heart and promises a whole lot of blood and gore, however, fans of series like Tokyo Ghoul and Elfen Leid will love this one. It is based on the best-selling horror manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki which ran from 1990 until 1995. The series follows Shinichi Izumi, a normal 17-year-old high school student who one night has his right hand infected by an alien parasite which is named Migi (the Japanese for right). The aliens aim to take over the planet by infecting humans through their ear and documents Shinishi’s struggle to contain Migi and prevent it from burrowing into his brain.
Akatsuki no Yona
Based on Mizuho Kusanagi’s popular fantasy romance manga, the series is set in an ancient kingdom and revolves around Yona, a princess who lives a generally happy life. She is in love with her cousin, Soo-won. One night, she sees Soo-won murder her father, the king and says that he wants to be king himself. She runs away with her servant, Son-Hak and their adventures begin.
Ronia the Robber’s Daughter
Based on a Swedish fantasy book of the same name, which is written by Astrid Lindgren, the anime adaptation will feature beautiful CGI settings and boasts of a beautiful story. The story is set in Medieval Scandanavia and will be about Ronia, a mischievous little girl who has grown up among a clan of robbers. It is also co-produced by Studio Ghibli and directed by Goro Miyazaki and that alone is already worth noting and makes sure that this anime should not be missed.
Amagi Brilliant Park
Based on the light novel series by acclaimed Japanese writer Shoji Gatoh, best known for his Full Metal Panic light novels, the anime will be produced by Kyoto Animation. It is set in the decrepid theme park known as Amagi Brilliant Park. One day, Seiya Kanie is forced to come to the park by the mysterious and beautiful Isuzu Sento. Seiya then finds out that he is tasked in saving the failing park and finds out that Amagi Brilliant Park is not just any park, as it is home to real fairies.
This anime is adapted from the popular manga of the same name by Daisuke Ashihara and serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump!. Just by the mere fact that this anime came from Shounen Jump! has made this series one of the most hyped new anime coming in this October. And for people who haven’t heard of Shounen Jump! yet, the manga magazine has produced countless classics like Dragon ball, One Piece, Naruto, Nisekoi, Beelzebub, Reborn!, Bleach, and Assassination Classroom among others. The series is set in Mikado City, which contains a gate where monsters known as “Neighbors” come from. The story follows Yuuma Kuga, a humanoid Neighbor and low-ranked border soldier, Osamu Mikumo who is tasked to fight the Neighbors along with the other Border agents.
