World War II may have been one of the darkest eras in Japanese history, but with the rise in popularity of anime series inspired by World War II like Girls und Panzer and Strike Witches, as well as games like Kantai Collection, it seems that the younger generation of Japan has had a lighter take on the war. Those three series, which are all made by Kadokawa, are teaming up to promote the World War II movie, Fury, starring Brad Pitt and Shia LeBeouf.

Fury, which also stars Logan Lerman, Jon Bernthal, Michael Peña, Jason Isaacs, and Scott Eastwood, follows the crew of the M4A3E8 Sherman tank called “Fury” as it battles through enemy lines outnumbered and outgunned. The collaboration with the movie is not very surprising as WWII buffs in Japan are on the rise with games like World of Tanks, World of Warships, and Kantai Collection getting more and more popular, as well as anime like Strike Witches, Arpeggio of Blue Steel, and Girls und Panzer.

With its Japanese release slated for November 1, 2014, clear files from Kantai Collection, Strike Witches, and Girls und Panzer will be distributed in several Japanese theaters. Other promotions regarding the collaboration will also be revealed.

Strike Witches is inspired by World War II airplanes while Girls und Panzer features World War II battle tanks. Kantai Collection on the other hand features World War II warships as moe anthropomorphic girls.
